KTM has taken the wraps off the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo in the build up to EICMA. This bike is the flagship road-focused ADV in KTM’s line-up and pairs the new 1,350cc motor with the brand’s new AMT and a whole host of electronics. The overall design is very angular and almost insect-like like the latest gen KTM models.

  1. 1,350cc V-twin gets VVT, makes 173hp and 145Nm
  2. AMT gearbox has manual and auto modes
  3. Electronic aids benefit from radar assistance

The engine in the 1390 Super Adventure S is the same liquid-cooled, 1,350cc, V-twin seen in the Super Duke R but here it is rated for 173hp and 145Nm of torque. This motor also benefits from VVT (variable valve timing), which should help aid low-end torque as well as top-end shove.

But the biggest talking point about the powertrain is arguably the AMT gearbox fitted to this bike. This eliminates the need for the rider to shift in automatic mode; the rider can take manual control via paddles on the left-hand side switch cube in manual mode.

KTM has also made changes to the main frame to accommodate the bigger engine, with the company claiming the frame is stiffer than the one on the outgoing 1290. Since this is the Evo variant, the 1390 Super Adventure rolls on the latest-gen semi-active electronically controlled WP suspension. What continues on from the 1290 are the 19/17-inch cast alloy wheels and the Brembo brake setup.

As is expected of a top-tier ADV touring bike these days, KTM has festooned the 1390 Super Adventure’s electronics arsenal with every possible feature. The standard gazoo of riding modes, traction control, quickshifter and ABS are supplemented by radar-assisted riding aids like adaptive cruise control, front collision warning and brake assistance.

Here’s one neat thing the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo can pull off: since the ECU controls both the AMT and the radar-assisted rider aids, the bike can come to a halt on its own if it detects an object on the road ahead, without the rider having to press the brake lever at all.

All these electronics are controlled via KTM’s brand-new 8.8-inch touchscreen TFT display – one of the largest dashboards to be fitted to any production bike to date. KTM will showcase the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo at EICMA and it will be available internationally from early 2025. Whether this bike will make its way to India is a question only time will answer.
