Yamaha has equipped its FZS-FI with a new 220mm rear disc brake and a new alloy wheel design. The motorcycle also has a new mirror design and blue colour scheme. The Japanese bike maker has priced this motorcycle at Rs 86,042 – making it Rs 3,000 more than the older motorcycle, which was priced at 83,042 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

The rear disc on the FZS-FI is bound to increase its braking performance – however, ABS is still absent. The new alloy wheel design on the motorcycle is identical to that seen on the FZ 25 and Fazer 25, and may even be the same cycle part. The new rear view mirrors on the motorcycle have a sharper design. These suit the motorcycle considerably more than the oval ones on the previous model.

Barring the addition of the disc brake, the FZS-FI remains mechanically identical. It uses the same 149cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that makes 13.2hp and 12.8Nm of torque. This motor is mated to the same 5-speed gearbox, as well.  When compared to its rivals, the FZS-FI weighs the least. With the addition of the disc-brake assembly, though, we expect a slight weight gain over the drum model.

In terms of competition, this new FZS-FI goes head-on against the rear disc brake-equipped Suzuki Gixxer and Honda CB160 Hornet.
