Honda has patented the design of the PCX160 maxi-scooter in India. The PCX160 is a direct rival to the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Hero Xoom 160, and it is a model that Honda sells in some Southeast Asian countries, such as Indonesia and the Philippines.

  1. Honda is looking to bring a 160cc scooter to India
  2. The PCX160 is sold in South Asian markets
  3. Features are similar to Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160

Honda PCX160 scooter details

PCX gets keyless ignition, 30-litre boot and ABS

The Honda PCX160 is powered by a liquid-cooled, 157cc, single-cylinder engine making 16hp and 14.7Nm of torque. These figures put it more or less on par with the Aerox 155 (15hp, 13.9Nm) and the Xoom 160 (14.8hp, 14Nm). The PCX’s underpinnings are also very similar, with an underbone frame suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. The only difference is that the PCX runs on a 14/13-inch (F/R) alloy wheel setup, unlike the aforementioned scooters, which use 14-inch wheels at both ends. Just like its underpinnings, the feature set on the PCX is very similar to those of its rivals. It has keyless ignition, an LCD screen, single-channel ABS, and a 30-litre boot.

But that’s not what sets the PCX160 apart from other patent filings from Honda in the past. What does is that Honda is looking to bring a 160cc scooter to India in the coming months, and the filing of this design patent could signal the likelihood of the PCX160 being that model. Of course, on the other hand, there are dozens of other models that Honda has patented in our country (like the Forza 350Hawk 11BeatNPF125, and many more), which have not seen the light of day. So, there is a chance that this patent filing may also go down a similar route. Time will tell which possibility materialises.
