The TVS NTorq scooter range, which was launched on February 5, 2018, crossed the million unit sales milestone in the first few days of April 2022, according to a sales analysis by our sister publication Autocar Professional. The scooter has gone on to clock a total of 11,24,661 units till August 2022, and at the end of March 2022, the total sales were just 1,368 units shy of million units.

  • NTorq is the second TVS scooter to cross 1 million mark after Jupiter
  • TVS’ scooter market share has doubled since 2014
  • The NTorq is offered in up to six variants now

TVS NTorq sales trajectory

Within two months of its launch, the NTorq recorded 19,809-unit sales, and went on to clock 2,13,039 units in FY2019 (April 2018-March 2019), its first full year of sales. In FY2020 (April 2019-March 2020), it recorded sales of 2,65,016 units, up 24 percent. Even as COVID-19 gripped the country, in 2020 and 2021, the scooter sold 2,51,491 units – a monthly average of 20,957 units. Last financial year, however, sales were marginally down to 2,49,277 units.

TVS NTorq: helping TVS increase its scooter marketshare

The NTorq range with 1,26,029 units in April-August 2022 is a strong contributor – 24 percent – to TVS’s overall scooter sales of 5,23,458 units. The Jupiter with 3,15,590 units remains the biggest contributor with a 60 percent share. It is worth noting that TVS’ April-August 2022 sales of 5,23,458 scooters are its best-ever total recorded for the first five months of a fiscal year in over a decade. The other scooters in TVS’ stable are the Zest, Pep+ and the electric iQube.

When the Jupiter entered the market in FY2014, TVS had a 12.68 percent scooter market share. Eight years later, that share has doubled, with TVS Motor Co now placed second in the scooter market after Honda’s 48.50 percent, and Suzuki coming in third with a 13 percent share. Along with the Jupiter – which has crossed five million sales in the domestic market since its launch – and the NTorq, TVS now has two models in its scooter portfolio which have sold over a million units.
