With 601 motorcycles sold in FY2022, American icon Harley-Davidson has nearly tripled its sales compared to FY2021, when it managed to sell 206 units. Of the 601 bikes sold in the last fiscal year, 531 were above the 1,000cc mark, making Harley the runaway market leader in the 1,000cc and above segment. The next best performer in the category was Triumph, which trailed a good deal behind, at 336 units.

Turn back the clocks just a couple of years and the Milwaukee manufacturer's Indian operation seemed to be in a state of disarray, with the company announcing that it would cease its operations in India after 11 years of being in the country. While it has withdrawn from an active capacity in the Indian market, the bikemaker did strike a deal to keep its motorcycles in showrooms in our country.

FY2022 marked the first full financial year that the American company's distribution and service in India has been handled by Hero MotoCorp, after the Indian giant took over Harley's sales and service in October 2020. In that time, Hero has expanded the network to comprise 13 showrooms and 10 service centres across the country, while also restarting customer interaction events like the richly attended HOG rallies across the nation.

Also helping the sales growth has been the introduction of new products – particularly the Pan America 1250, which has given Harley a slice of the lucrative adventure bike pie. To find out how well The Motor Company has done in its first crack at an ADV, you can check out our review here.
