Yamaha has launched the updated Crosser in Brazil, and the reason this piques our interest is because it is based on the Yamaha FZ-Fi platform that is on sale in India. While it doesn’t imply that Yamaha India is going to launch the motorcycle here in the near future, it sure is worth taking a look.

Starting with the design, the Crosser looks every bit like a dual sport motorcycle and the LED projector headlight is akin to what we’ve seen in other 150cc Yamaha motorcycles like the FZ25 and MT-15. The headlight is surrounded by an LED Daytime Running Light, while the sharp beak is located right underneath. The 12-litre fuel tank and tail section seems to draw inspiration from Yamaha’s off-road bikes and the overall design looks purposeful.

The bike gets a full-digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, which is again similar to the one seen in the Indian FZ, except that it gets a gear position indicator as well. There’s a nifty charging socket as well, located next to the ignition slot.

The ergonomics seem to be pretty much upright, although the seat height, at 845mm, is on the taller side – 20mm more than that of the Hero Xpulse 200 4V.

Powering the Yamaha crosser is a 12.4hp, 12.7Nm, 149cc, air-cooled single-cylinder engine that’s paired with a five-speed gearbox. While the bore/stroke and power figures are identical to the engine in the FZ-Fi and FZ-X in India, the Crosser’s engine makes slightly less torque.

The bike is suspended by a telescopic fork with 180mm travel and a monoshock with 160mm travel. The bike runs on tube type wire-spoke wheels and gets disc brakes at the front and rear with single-channel ABS. The motorcycle tips the scales at 137kg.

The Yamaha Crosser isn’t on the cards for India, but wouldn’t it be nice to see another 150cc dual-sport on sale here, especially since the Hero Impulse is no longer available? Let us know in the comments.
