Triumph has given the highly popular Tiger 800 range a big update for 2018; you can head over to our first ride review to read all about the new motorcycle. We now have word that the company will be launching the new range in India on March 21.
Triumph sells six different Tiger 800 variants internationally, but there isn’t much clarity just yet on how many of these will debut in India at the beginning. It’s fair to expect that at least one model in the off-road-biased XC range will go on sale here – either the mid XCa model or the top-spec XCx. We also believe that something from the road-biased XR range could very well be launched on March 21 as well. For reference, the models available from the previous Tiger 800 range were the XR, XRx, XCx and the XCa.
The previous Tiger 800 range was priced between Rs 10.87 lakh and Rs 14.37 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new model is likely to be more expensive, partly due to the upgrades on offer, but also down to the recently hiked CKD tax rates. We expect pricing to start at around Rs 11.3-11.5 lakh now, with the top model being priced at around the Rs 15 lakh mark. However, the surprisingly competitive pricing of the new BMW F 750 GS and F 850 GS will definitely be giving Triumph a lot to consider when they price the new bikes. It will be interesting to see how they respond.
As a quick recap, Triumph claims over 200 individual changes to the new Tiger 800 range. The chassis and swingarm remain the same, but significant work has gone into making the engine more refined and responsive. Most of the bodywork is new, finish levels are now higher and the bike offers added electronic kit, including a full TFT display for mid and top variants.
