The Tata Altroz is one of India’s most successful premium hatchbacks. Its ‘Impact 2.0’ design language has wowed customers across demographics and has received tremendous levels of appreciation from buyers. The futuristic design really does stand out – from its laser-cut exteriors and the diamond-cut R16 alloy wheels to the black contrast roof and the black comet line, the details really come together to boost the Altroz’s visual appeal.
The premium and intelligently designed interiors are also a notch above other cars in its segment. The cockpit-inspired interiors with the blue ambient light on the floating dashboard adds to the sophistication in the car. Customers love the Altroz’s high-end Harman infotainment system that has a 7.0-inch touchscreen. The plush leatherette seats, rear flat floor (which allows three adult occupants to be seated comfortably on the rear seat), best-in-segment 345-litre boot space, automatic headlamps and cruise control are just some of the other features that take the car’s experience to a completely new level.
The Altroz, built on the Tata Motors ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible, and Advanced) architecture, is also India’s safest hatchback – it has a 5-star Global NCAP Safety Rating, which speaks volumes about its build quality. In addition to this, the Altroz comes with iRA – connected car technology that allows customers to stay connected to their cars from wherever they are.
That the Altroz is a standout product is a view that’s shared by the esteemed jury for the Autocar Awards 2021, which crowned it the best designed and styled car of the year. For the ‘Best Design & Styling’ award, the Altroz was evaluated by India’s most celebrated automotive awards jury, which included Hormazd Sorabjee, Editor, Autocar India; Renuka Kirpalani, Editor, Autocar Show, ex-F1 racing driver, Narain Karthikeyan, veteran racer, Kamlesh Patel, and Autocar India Deputy Editor, Shapur Kotwal.
The Autocar jury loved how the Altroz’s designers pushed the design envelope but ensured that the car didn’t look overstyled. According to Renuka Kirpalani, the Altroz scores big all around. “Design, to me, is not only about the way a car looks, but also how it all works together. With the Altroz, many interesting details come together in a cohesive manner to form a sharp-looking hatchback with just the right proportions. The form is functional as well: the cabin is spacious and there are quality materials inside,” she said. Kirpalani wasn’t, of course, the only person impressed by the Altroz. “The Tata Motors design team has outdone itself. This is by far the best-looking hatchback in the metal and on our roads,” said Hormazd Sorabjee.
Shapur Kotwal appreciated many things about the Altroz’s styling. In particular, he noted: “The Lamborghini Diablo-like plunging window line gives it a tipped-forward stance and provides the front wheel arch plenty of definition. And then there’s the very distinctive rear, with its blacked-out section and the attractive nose with its unique overbite,” said Kotwal. And to Narain Karthikeyan, the Altroz was an all-rounder. “The Altroz is a very well packaged car. It is very well put together, and totally up to date when it comes to design,” said Karthikeyan.
They say looks are subjective, but, as the Tata Altroz as proved, great design can make people think alike.
