Fastest MG car yet; claimed range is impressive too

0 to 100kph takes 3.2 seconds; top speed is 200kph

Powered by dual electric motors, one each at the front and back, the Cyberster AWD makes a whopping 510hp and 725Nm. That combined output is enough for the MG Cyberster to make a 0-100kph dash in just 3.2 seconds and reach a 200kph top speed. The sprint time from rest alone is significantly faster than more expensive convertibles in India, like the BMW Z4 (4.5-4.6 seconds) and Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 (6.7 seconds).

In addition to impressive performance, its 77kWh battery pack lends it a 580km range on our ARAI cycle; a 10-80 percent charge can be done in 40 minutes with a 144kW DC fast charger.

Head-turning design

Has scissor doors, borrows design cues form MG B roadster of the 1960s

Our MG Cyberster review gave the convertible car 9/10 points in the looks department, raving about its smooth body lines and a cohesive design. But the real standout has to be the electrically operated scissor doors. The long bonnet is a nod to the MG B roadster of the 1960s, the car that inspires the Cyberster’s exterior, with 20-inch turbine-style alloy wheels demanding attention, too. With a drag coefficient of just 0.26, the roadster is designed for exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, a key factor for any EV. Its fabric soft top roof can be opened/closed in only 10 seconds at speeds of up to 50kph.

Suede and leather seats, Bose audio system

The materials and fit-finish of the Cyberster’s interior feel high-quality. Even the seats are comfortable and are wrapped in suede and leather covers. Drivers will also appreciate how the displays and controls are angled towards them, enhancing ease of use. Audio duties are taken care of by a premium 320W Bose sound system, which is wired to eight speakers.

Low slung stance may not be suitable for Indian roads

Underbody scraping risk over speed breakers

The Cyberster’s low ground clearance gives it both high-speed stability, especially on racetracks, and a classic sports car look. However, that may also increase the risk of underbody damage on speed breakers, potholes and uneven surfaces. Low-profile tyres over these road conditions don’t help either, and some rim damage could occur. Therefore, extreme caution should be taken while driving the MG EV, which has a nearly Rs 75 lakh price tag.

Interior ergonomics and storage spaces could be improved

Limited storage areas; lacks frunk

When it comes to storage, the Cyberster’s cabin offers limited options – a glovebox, a small cubby under the armrest and a bit of space behind the seats. There is no frunk either, which could have held the charging cables and accessories, freeing up the boot. Wireless smartphone connectivity and a charger are also absent. Having said that, a sports car isn’t meant to be the most practical, so these are not going to be deal breakers.
