Which facelifted sedan is quicker in the petrol-automatic guise, the City or the Slavia? Let’s find out.

The midsize sedan segment has been reignited in 2026 with facelifts for the Honda City and Skoda Slavia. The former, currently in its fifth generation, is one of India’s longest-running nameplates, whereas the latter arrived much later in 2022. If you’re the type of consumer who prefers sedans, which of these models delivers better real-world performance? For this comparison, we’ve picked the City’s sole petrol engine and the Slavia’s smaller 1.0-litre TSI mill, both paired with automatic gearboxes.

Thanks to higher torque, the Slavia grabs the lead from the get-go, but the City isn’t too far behind. The Skoda increases its lead minutely as speeds rise, reaching the 100kph mark 0.80 seconds quicker. The timing gap between the two remains the same even at 120kph, with the Slavia and City taking 15.40 seconds and 16.20 seconds, respectively. The Slavia performs better partly because its torque-converter gearbox holds the engine within its core powerband for longer.

Autocar India’s testing standards

Before we conduct our performance tests, we check and maintain tyre pressures based on the manufacturer’s recommendations and ensure the car has a full tank of fuel. The car is then tested in a controlled environment with two people on board, and the data is collected via highly accurate GPS-based timing equipment.
