Hey everyone, I'm a first-time buyer and a new driver looking for a car for my family of 5. I'm 6 ft tall, so space and comfort are important. My budget is around ₹12 lakhs, and safety is my biggest priority. Any recommendations would be really helpful!

Being 6ft tall, you will naturally push the driver’s seat quite far back, so rear legroom becomes important, especially with a family of five. With a budget of around Rs 12 lakh, you’re realistically looking at well-equipped compact SUVs or sub-4m sedans. They aren’t huge inside, so choosing the roomiest option in the segment is key.
Our first pick would be the Maruti Suzuki Brezza (automatic). It’s an easy car for a new driver to live with. The high seating position and good all-round visibility make it simple to judge the car’s edges, which really helps beginners. The automatic gearbox is smooth and removes the stress of gear changes in traffic. Rear legroom will be a bit tight if you push the seat all the way back, but in most situations it’s manageable. It's tough and reliable and comes with six airbags.
Another good option is the Honda Amaze. While it doesn’t offer the high seating stance of the Brezza, it has a very comfortable driving position. The 1.2 petrol CVT is smooth and responsive, which builds confidence for a new driver. For a sub-4m sedan, the cabin is surprisingly spacious, and the seats are comfortable. An added advantage is that the Amaze is roughly Rs 2 lakh more affordable than the Brezza, giving you better value within your budget.
Between the two, if you prefer the SUV stance and visibility, go Brezza. If you want more space for the money and a smooth, easy drive, the Amaze makes a lot of sense.

I need a car for my daily commute, and my travel will be around 50-60 km every day. Most of my driving will be within the city, along with occasional highway drives on weekends. My budget should allow for an EMI of less than ₹20,000 per month. Considering my usage, should I go for a diesel or a CNG car, and which option would you recommend?

With your daily running of around 50-60 km, your monthly usage will easily cross 1,500 km, so choosing a fuel with low running costs makes sense. In this case, CNG is generally a better fit than diesel, especially since most of your driving is in the city. One of the better options to consider is the Tata Nexon CNG. Unlike most CNG cars, the Nexon uses a turbo-petrol engine, which means it still feels reasonably strong and comfortable even on the highway. The turbo engine produces good torque, which helps maintain performance despite running on CNG. This makes the Nexon CNG a good balance between low running costs for the city and decent highway performance for weekend drives.Another practical option is the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, particularly the LXi or VXi variants. The Brezza uses a 1.5-litre engine with factory-fitted CNG. It is known for being smooth and reliable while still offering good mileage and reasonable performance.

I am planning to buy a Brezza CNG Zxi. I have heard a facelift is expected around April-May 2026, which may come with an underbody CNG tank and a manual 6-speed gearbox replacing the existing 5-speed gearbox. Should I wait, or should I buy right now?

The update is expected around April-May 2026, and there are chances that the CNG version could get improvements such as a better-packaged CNG tank, like in the Maruti Victoris and possibly a 6-speed manual. Even if the exact changes are different from what is currently expected, the facelift will at least bring cosmetic updates and feature additions.Since the timeline is quite close, waiting a few weeks will give you clarity on what the updated model offers. If the changes are meaningful, you can buy the new version. If they are minor, you can still choose the current model, often with better discounts as dealers clear older stock.Given how close the facelift appears to be, it makes sense to wait a little before buying the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG so you can decide with full information once the updated model is revealed.

I am currently planning to buy a new car in the ₹17-19 lakh range. My priorities are safety, decent performance, and good mileage. I am considering the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX diesel and the Kia Seltos HTK variant. I do not have a fixed running pattern since I am a doctor, so my daily driving can range anywhere from 10 to 100 km per day. I was also thinking about waiting for MG Motor to launch a plug-in hybrid. Considering my usage pattern and priorities, what would be the best option for me?

Considering your priorities, the Kia Seltos in diesel guise would be the better choice. It is compact for the city but also has good space on the inside. The quality of the interior is very good, and the 1.5-litre diesel engine is tried and tested. It has a good amount of punch and response, and should you opt for the manual version, the clutch is light and convenient in traffic. The Seltos also has a better after-sales and service network, and Kia's are known to be quite reliable too. The Mahindra XUV7XO is also a good choice, but if you don't need an extra row of seats, it is a bit more cumbersome than the Seltos. Also, within your budget, you will only get the entry-level version of the 7XO, whereas the Seltos on HTK trim gets a decent equipment list.
