I am presently driving an automatic Honda City ZX. I run 35km in the city and 500 km on highways in a month. I am looking for a 20-25 lacs EV car. Seeking advice on this.

EV's depreciate faster than ICE, retaining only 60% of their value within the first 3 years. But as the EV sales increase and petrol prices go up, that retention value is going to increase.

I want to purchase a car, considering 3 options- Petrol, Hybrid & EV 1- slavia 1.5 dsg 2- Mahindra BE6 pack2 79kwh 3- Honda City Hybrid My yearly drive is 12.5K km (60% highway and 40% city), and I am planning to keep the car for 15 years. Hi, we are a family of three living in Pune, where traffic is extremely congested. Our budget is 15-20 lakh, and we're looking for a car, preferably a hybrid, with good fuel efficiency. I'm 6ft 2in tall, so cabin space is also important. We currently own a Kia Sonet HTX Plus. What would you recommend?

Its hybrid powertrain delivers excellent fuel efficiency in stop-start city driving, while the light controls and comfortable ride make it easy to live with every day. Headroom in the front seat is adequate for someone who is 6'2'', but it will feel a bit tight in the back seat. If you are the one who is driving, then it shouldn't be an issue. The sunroof also takes away a little headroom, so it's best avoided. The other drawback is that the boot is on the smaller side for the segment, but for a family of three, it should still be manageable.If you don't mind compromising on fuel efficiency, the Kia Seltos IVT is also worth considering. It is not a hybrid, but a reliable and comfortable SUV with a spacious cabin and a strong ownership reputation. However, given your focus on fuel efficiency in heavy traffic, the Maruti Suzuki car remains the stronger recommendation.

Consider the Kia Seltos DCT. For a 12km commute and occasional 5-6-hour road trips, you will find it comfortable in the city, quick on the highway and easy to own long term. The latest-generation Seltos is larger than before, so feels spacious inside. The cabin is tech-laden and upmarket, and the ride quality has improved too. The turbo-petrol DCT has good performance for quick overtakes on the highway, and the DCT is responsive. The downside is that it can occasionally hesitate in the city, but with your short commute this shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Kia's service is also amongst the best in the business.If you want something larger, the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol automatic is also a solid choice in your budget. It is a genuinely comfortable car with a spacious cabin, excellent ride quality and strong highway manners. The petrol engine is smooth and refined, and the automatic gearbox makes city driving effortless. Mahindra's service network is strong in Thane and Mumbai. The drawback is that the big petrol engine will be thirsty in the city.An electric car makes sense if you can charge at home and if there are fast chargers on your usual highway route. In that case, the Hyundai Creta Electric is a safe bet. It is well suited to your short daily commute and offers very low running costs. At 5'1", she will benefit from its good all-round visibility, light steering and compact dimensions, which make it very easy to manoeuvre in city traffic and tight parking spaces. The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive. Fuel efficiency is decent; expect 9 to 10kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway.If you want something a bit more efficient, consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In our testing we managed 12.7kpl in the city and 19kpl on the highway with the AGS.
