Hi, I have been driving Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol for 17 years now and am planning to buy a new car. My yearly running would be around 5000kms with 50% driving on highway and 50% driving in Tier 1 and 2 cities. My budget is 20 lakh maximum (on-road) in Bengaluru and I plan to retain the car for 10-15 years. I am too confused on NA engine petrol car due to ethanol blending issue and am inclined towards Diesel. I have shortlisted Victoris MT, Grand Vitara MT, 3XO Diesel MT and Nexon Diesel MT. I require 360-degree car camera system and sufficient boot space. I am open to all suggestions please.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is a good upgrade from the Swift, and is backed by Maruti's widespread network. It is a well-rounded car, but do keep in mind, it's 1.5-petrol engine is efficient and feels adequately responsive in the city, but it can feel a bit lacklustre on the highway, especially while overtaking. You could consider a Honda Elevate. It is a practical, sensible SUV with a more powerful petrol engine. Both these vehicles should serve you well over your 10-15-year ownership period.

I currently own a 2016 Ciaz petrol MT and have got used to its smooth driving experience and spacious interior. I am looking for a replacement that offers similar comfort. Hello, I want to buy an SUV, and my first preference is the Honda Elevate top-end automatic variant, as I have been driving Honda City automatics for almost 16 years across two cars. Kindly let me know whether a new facelift is expected in the next one or two months. If so, what changes are expected? The mechanical package is expected to remain unchanged - the proven 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a CVT automatic. The important additions are likely to be a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, revised styling and some ADAS updates.Given that you have owned Honda City automatics for 16 years, the Elevate is a natural choice. Its simple 1.5-litre petrol-CVT combination, comfortable ride, good visibility and proven mechanicals make it particularly well suited to long-term ownership.If you want to consider alternatives, the Toyota Hyryder/Maruti Victoris are worth looking at, particularly if fuel efficiency is important. The Kia Seltos is more spacious and feels more premium, while the Skoda Kushaq is the better choice if driving enjoyment matters.However, for your priorities and your long association with Honda, the Elevate remains one of the strongest choices.

Currently, I own a Sonet and am extremely unhappy with its poor suspension and very low mileage. My driving is mostly limited to congested areas and heavy traffic, with a daily running of around 20–22 km. I also do not have dedicated EV charging facilities, so a fully electric vehicle is not an option. Given my priorities of good mileage and a comfortable rear-seat ride without excessive wobbling or jerking, would it make sense to go for a strong hybrid such as the Toyota Hyryder or Maruti Suzuki Vitara, or would a regular Honda City be the better choice? I am particularly wondering whether spending an additional Rs 7-8 lakh on a hybrid would be justified, considering my relatively low daily usage of around 22 km. Open to all suggestions.

The City’s CVT is smooth, reliable and well suited to stop-and-go traffic, and the rear seat ride is comfortable and stable, which addresses your main complaint with the Kia Sonet. The strong hybrid premium on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara / Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is difficult to justify at your running; the fuel savings will take a very long time to recover, and the City’s petrol efficiency is good enough for your usage pattern. The City also has a proven long-term ownership track record with low running costs and a comfortable ride, which is exactly what you are looking for. If you want a slightly higher seating position and a more SUV-like feel, the Honda Elevate is a good alternative with the same engine and a similarly comfortable ride.

I want to buy Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 diesel manual but my concern is that many users have reported notchy or problematic gearing in manual and wearing of clutch plate. Are these recurrent issues or they are case-to-case basis?

Go ahead and buy the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 diesel manual. The notchy gearshift and clutch wear are not widespread ownership issues. The 7XO uses a 6-speed manual gearbox paired with a strong diesel engine, and while some owners have reported a slightly notchy shift action, it is not a reliability problem. It is more a matter of shift feel, and it tends to improve as the car runs in. Clutch wear is largely usage-dependent. The 7XO diesel has a strong torque band, so you can drive it with fewer gear changes and less clutch slip. If you drive in heavy stop-start traffic with a lot of clutch riding, any modern diesel will wear its clutch faster. Mahindra has also made incremental improvements to the clutch and gearbox over time. The bigger picture is that the 7XO diesel is one of the best long-distance SUVs in the segment, with a strong engine, excellent ride and a very comfortable cabin. If you are worried about the manual, the automatic is a very good torque converter unit, but if you prefer a manual, this is not a reason to avoid the car. Just drive it normally, avoid excessive clutch slip in traffic, and you will not have a problem.

My usage is 35km of daily office commute in Delhi-NCR traffic. Please advice which option is best fit amongst Hyundai Venue HX 6T, SONET HTK+O and XUV 3XO.

Go for the Hyundai Venue. With your daily 35km commute in Delhi NCR traffic, comfort and low maintenance are key, and the Venue delivers on both. The 1.2 NA petrol is smooth, refined and easy to drive in stop-start conditions, while Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The HX6T variant also gives you a good balance of features without pushing the budget too far.The Sonet HTK+O is mechanically very similar, but the Venue is a newer model and offers a more spacious cabin. The XUV 3XO is also a good option, but its turbo petrol engine won't be as efficient as the Hyundai’s.Overall, the Venue is the most sensible upgrade from your Grand i10 for daily city use.

I have a Tata Nexon Creative AMT that is only a year old, but I have already had to replace the spark plugs four times and the ignition coil once. I am still facing engine misfires and vibrations inside the car. I am honestly fed up with Tata's service, as they have been unable to resolve the issue. I am therefore planning to sell the Nexon and buy a Kia Seltos with a manual transmission this time. My priority was safety earlier, and it remains my top priority. However, I now also want peace of mind and a hassle-free ownership experience. Would selling the Nexon and switching to the Seltos be a good decision?
