I own a 2012 Maruti Suzuki Ritz VDI. I enjoy the diesel performance and interior space, but I am facing issues with limited luggage capacity and a bumpy ride. I want to buy a used car under ₹6 lakh that offers similar space and punch, but with better boot space and ride quality. My usage is around 500 km per month, mostly city with occasional 500–600 km highway trips. I live in a small town, so I need a reliable car that local mechanics can repair. Suggestions?

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio would be a good option, the boot is nice and large and well-shaped, such that it can easily carry a couple of large suitcases. The ride quality of this car is also good, especially so soaking up low speed bumps typical in city roads.
On highways, the ride is stable and being a Maruti Suzuki car, it can be repaired almost anywhere. The only bit you would really miss when compared to your Ritz is the diesel engine torque, but at your budget, you would not find a diesel today.

I currently own a 2019 Toyota Innova Crysta diesel and am unsure whether I should sell it or continue using it. I’ve heard that the Innova Crysta may be discontinued around 2027, which makes me concerned that service support and parts availability might become difficult afterwards. However, I really don’t want to sell the car because it has been exceptional to own, and I feel that no car in the same price range as when I bought it comes close to its durability, comfort, and overall experience. The Innova Hycross, for example, doesn’t feel as rugged or tough as the Crysta. Given this situation, would it be better to keep the Innova Crysta for long-term ownership or sell it before discontinuation?

The Toyota Innova Crysta is a very popular and reliable car, known to run for several lakhs of kilometres, and it is likely to remain so for a long time. The fact that it is being discontinued in 2027 should not be a reason to sell it. Given particularly Toyota's strong and reputable reliability, and the relatively low maintenance required for a vehicle of this size and sort. If you are happy with the car, you should keep it, and the resale value of the car will not drop significantly. Moreover, while the Crysta might not live on past 2027, its platform and engine will be in the likes of the Hilux and Fortuner. So parts availability will not be an issue, and Toyota will support its huge base of Crysta customers for many years to come.

I currently own a Hyundai Xcent, which I purchased in 2015, and it has covered around 42,000 km so far. My driving is almost entirely in bumper-to-bumper city traffic (about 95%). I am now planning to buy an automatic car, preferably a sub-4 metre SUV, to make daily driving easier. My daily usage will be around 40–50 km in heavy city traffic. Considering these requirements, which automatic sub-4 metre SUV would you recommend?

For bumper-to-bumper traffic, the Maruti Brezza 1.5 Petrol 6AT is ideal. The engine-gearbox combination is smooth, and it feels peppy within urban confines. Also, the 6-speed torque converter is more suited for the constant stop-go usage than other transmission types like AMT or DCT. If you need something even smaller than the Brezza, you can consider the Nissan Magnite 1.0 Turbo CVT, which is another great option for you.

I have booked the Hyundai Creta Knight IVT Dual Tone, but I’m still unsure whether it’s the right choice or if I should have considered alternatives like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara or the Kia Seltos. However, I’m not particularly fond of the new design elements of the latest Seltos. The factors that matter most to me are value for money, good resale value after 5-6 years, long-term reliability, and comfort for family use. My monthly driving will be less than 1,000 km. Given these priorities, is the Creta Knight IVT a good choice, or would the Grand Vitara or Seltos have been a better option?

The Hyundai Creta King is a good choice. It is a well-rounded SUV that offers a comfortable ride, a spacious cabin, and a refined petrol engine. The IVT (automatic) is smooth and responsive. Being a popular model, you can expect good resale value in the future. The Grand Vitara is also a good option, but it is not as spacious as the Creta. Hence, long distance comfort could be hampered.
