I am confused between the Tata Sierra and the new Kia Seltos petrol automatic with ADAS. Which one would be the better choice? If your recommendation is the Kia Seltos, please explain why it would be preferable over the Tata Sierra, especially considering that the Sierra offers similar advanced features at a comparable price point. While I understand that the Seltos has better mileage, I would also like to know how significant the real-world mileage difference is between the two.

If it’s features that you want, then the Tata Sierra is the one to go for. The Accomplished+ will get you the full suite of ADAS features you’re looking for and also comes with goodies like a triple-screen setup, ventilated front seats with memory and power adjustment for the driver, and an electric tailgate. It is also roomier than the Kia Seltos, and its torque-converter automatic is smoother in the city. Ride and handling are well sorted too, and refinement is on par with the Seltos.

One thing to note, however, is that Kia generally has a better reputation when it comes to aftersales service, whereas Tata’s can be a bit hit or miss. That said, Tata has made improvements in that area, and the Sierra has a lot going for it.

Test drive both extensively before making a decision. Take them on busy city streets and on the highway to see how the ADAS works, check which transmission feels smoother, and dig into the infotainment systems to see which is more intuitive to use.

Hey, I'm looking to buy a car with a budget of 20L. I'm torn between the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the tata harrier If I go with the XUV 7XO, what's the difference between the AX7 and tata harrier lo variants? I'll be driving mostly in the city (50km daily) and my wife will be using it too. Plus, we plan for weekend drives (400-500km). Currently, I have an safari dicor(2012), but it's getting old and very expansive so looking to upgrade. Which one would you recommend and why?

See videos on.Tata Sierra performance on Instagram before you decide. Lot of videos showing reliability issues.

Get the Seltos. Better safety, better reliability, better fuel efficiency, definitely a better design.

Sierra is 200kg + heavier than Seltos and has 106 bhp engine compared to 113 bhp of Seltos. Sierra though smart looking is definitely underpowered. Will recommend Seltos any day.

Tata Sierra is not a car . It's a legacy. Kia is modern world. But tata Sierra is back with modern technology, design, features and most recruitment safety

@autocar India, this response from you is like a generic feature comparison, not an answer to the question. The key concern—real-world mileage difference—is completely missed, and there’s no clear recommendation either. Would’ve expected a more data-backed, decisive response from Autocar.

I am confused between the Tata Safari Petrol MT and the Tata Sierra Accomplished/Accomplished+ Petrol AT. This will be my first car, and I plan to keep it for around 8-10 years. My primary requirement is a real-world city mileage of at least 10-11kpl. Most of the driving will be in the city, with a monthly running of around 300km and one long trip every 1-2 months. Good road presence is also important. I would also prefer an engine with enough power for effortless highway overtaking. My wife is particularly interested in the passenger screen available on the Sierra Accomplished+, which is why I am considering stretching the budget for it. However, the Accomplished+ is around Rs 2 lakh over my original budget. Considering my usage and requirements, which car would make the most sense? If the Sierra is the better choice, should it be the Accomplished or Accomplished+? Is spending around Rs 2.5 lakh more on the Accomplished+ mainly for the passenger screen and additional features actually worth it?

Firstly, ask yourself whether you need the third row seating. If yes, then the Tata Safari is your best bet - it is a spacious three-row SUV. That said, its manual gearbox is not the smoothest, nor is its clutch as effort-free as that of most other smaller mid-size SUVs. Also, to extract 10-11kpl from your short city runs will be difficult. These are trade-offs you will have to make for its road presence, performance, as well as cabin space. If you don't need the extra row of seats, it makes sense to opt for the Tata Sierra instead. Do note, it isn't an efficient turbo-petrol-automatic combination, so be prepared for higher monthly fuel bills. The good news is that the 1.5 Turbo-Petrol's performance is strong, and the 6-speed automatic gearbox works smoothly. It is a spacious, sturdy SUV; you can choose from the multiple variants on offer. If you plan to keep the car for an 8-10 year period, it could be worth stretching your budget a bit and getting all the bells and whistles.
