I own a Tiago AMT 2021 model, Due to the E20 petrol compatible issue I would like to purchase a SUV which is spacious for 5 people. My usage is only on Weekends with 90% in City and occasional highway trips with around 5k - 7k KM per year. I've shortlisted Vitara Breeze ZXI+ AT and Nexon EV 45kw Empowered + My budget is around 15-18L Should I go for ICE or EV?

Nexon EV could be a great choice, especially for city driving. It's smooth and eco-friendly with lower running costs. However, if you prefer a more traditional feel and longer range for occasional highway trips, the Vitara Brezza is spacious and comfortable. Both are good options in your budget, but consider charging infrastructure for the EV if you go that route.

I (55M) need a family car for long-term ownership of 10+ years. My current monthly running is 1,500-2,000km. We are a family of four with two dogs, but we will rarely travel together. My budget is Rs 10-13 lakh on-road. My priorities are low running costs and comfort. I was mostly looking at the new Brezza CNG and Nexon CNG, but I am open to diesel as well.

With a monthly running of 1,500-2,000km and a 10+ year ownership horizon, diesel might sound like a good idea, but at your budget, there aren't many options. What you will get will only be base model cars with few creature comforts. In that respect, CNG is a better VFM option as you can get mid- to high-spec variants of cars. Plus, diesel requires the added maintenance of a DPF and the cost of AdBlue top-ups, as well as more maintenance costs over time. That said, there are also compromises of CNG ownership, such as lower power and torque, and the inconvenience of refuelling.The Maruti Brezza CNG ZXi would be the best choice, as it has an efficient yet powerful enough engine, a CNG tank located under the floor, and plenty of features within your budget. The Nexon CNG would be the next best bet, offering more power and similar underfloor CNG tanks, but it is not as efficient and is more expensive, spec-for-spec.

I’m a 21-year-old college student, and my family already owns a 2020 Fortuner. I’m looking for a second car for college use and outings. Should I go with the Thar, as per my father's choice, or the new-generation 2026 Hilux, which I like? Or is there any other good option? It must be a diesel SUV.

Why not consider the Mahindra Thar Roxx instead? The Thar is a good secondary car, however the absence of rear doors hampers practicality. Also, while the Thar is excellent off-road, it can feel a bit bumpy on the road. In comparison, the Thar Roxx feels a lot more practical, usable and comfortable for daily use and long drives. The Hilux is simply too large for daily driving, especially in the city. However, if you're looking to get a vehicle purely for butch looks and stand-out road presence, then nothing will come close to the new Hilux. Be prepared to spend a lot more for it (compared to a Mahindra Thar Roxx).

With a daily running of around 100 km, fuel efficiency becomes a major factor in ownership costs. The Skoda Kushaq petrol automatic is a good car, but the 10-13kpl you are seeing is typical for a turbo petrol automatic, especially with E20 petrol. At this usage, a diesel or a strong hybrid makes far more sense.If you do regular highway runs, a diesel is still the most practical and cost-effective solution. The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic would be the recommendation here. It is a strong highway car, comfortable, spacious and the diesel engine will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency than your Kushaq. Diesel running costs will be far lower over your kind of mileage. If that is out of your budget, something smaller like a Kia Seltos diesel, while not as powerful, is even more efficient.If your usage is mostly city a strong hybrid could be a better solution. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the most practical and cost-effective option. It is well priced, has a proven track record and will dramatically reduce your running costs. The strong hybrid is better suited to the city, where it is more likely to run on its electric motor than use the engine and deliver the better mileage.

I’m planning to buy an EV with a budget of Rs. 19 - 20 lakh. My heart says the Tata Sierra EV Pure 63, but my mind says the Kia Syros top variant because of features like ventilated seats. Kindly suggest which one would be the better choice.

The choice really comes down to your usage and what you value in the car. If you need more space for both passengers and luggage and have a few long drives that you would undertake, then opt for the Tata Sierra. It is a much larger car and has a very spacious interior. The ride quality is also very good over both bad city roads as well as high highway speeds. If, however, your usage is mainly going to be within the city, then the Kia Syros is the better buy. Its compact footprint will be much easier to manage while driving congested streets, and finding parking would be easier. You would also enjoy the top variant of Kia car and its features.
