I live in Ahmedabad, and I am looking to upgrade my car. I currently drive a Honda W-RV Petrol manual. I am looking to upgrade to a C-segment SUV. I drive about 80 km every day within the city. While commuting in Ahmedabad is not as hectic as in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, it still gets pretty hectic, especially during peak hours. My second car is a Tiago EV. I am fine with any engine option. Reliability and spaciousness are my primary concerns. The budget is somewhere near the 20 lakh mark. Please guide me.

Pick the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong-hybrid. With your 80 km of daily city driving, it slashes fuel costs and makes peak-hour traffic easy thanks to its smooth automatic. Toyota’s reliability and service reach are rock solid, and the Hyryder’s back seat is comfortable for adults with easy ingress, which suits long days in Ahmedabad. In real city use, it does 20-plus kpl, so you’ll refuel far less than a regular petrol.

The catch is the hybrid’s boot is smaller than rivals, and the hybrid trims can nudge past Rs. 20 lakh on-road. @autocar.india Seltos was on my list, but I am confused wether I should go for a diesel or petrol or should I completely go for something like a Sierra EV? Also, would it be better if I waited until Seltos Hybrid comes out?

@dhairya.01 Skip the Sierra EV and don't wait for the Seltos Hybrid either. You can simply go for the Seltos Diesel as it offers excellent fuel efficiency, effortless performance for both city and highway driving, and has a proven ownership record.

Given your priorities of city driving, fuel economy and maintenance cost, the Kia Seltos IVT with ADAS is a solid choice. The IVT is smooth and well-suited to city driving; the SUV is manoeuvrable, and the powertrain is reasonably efficient. And you're right to reject an EV without a home-charging option, because that is essential. That said, given your usage, a better fit would be the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid or the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid. Both use the same strong hybrid system, which delivers excellent fuel efficiency in city conditions by running on electric power at low speeds and reducing fuel consumption significantly. The Victoris is slightly better equipped, including a larger touchscreen and ADAS. Maintenance costs are also lower over the long term, and both Maruti and Toyota have strong service networks and proven reliability. However, they're not as spacious as the Seltos.

Hi, I own a 2014 (October) Duster diesel 85PS and have driven 1.25 lakh km. I am extremely happy with it. I want to change now, primarily because I want to upgrade to newer features. I have almost finalised the new Duster 1.3-litre, but the lack of a diesel option is the only factor stopping me. I am from Vizag and have a 50:50 city-to-highway usage pattern. Kindly advise.

The 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine is a strong performer and offers good drivability on highways, while still being manageable in city conditions. This new Renault car also brings a significant upgrade in features, safety and overall refinement compared to your 2014 model, which seems to be your primary motivation for the upgrade.The only caveat is fuel efficiency. The diesel Duster was known for its strong efficiency, especially on highways, and the turbo petrol will not match that.If you drive a lot and prefer to stick to diesels with all the modern bells and whistles, the Kia Seltos and Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel are worth considering.
