I am planning to buy an automatic car with a budget of up to ₹16 lakh. My driving will be mostly in the city, and I am confused between the Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and the new Hyundai Venue. Safety and driving experience are my top priorities. Please advise.

The Skoda Kylaq is the best option here. It has a comfortable ride, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is very punchy, and the 6-speed torque converter gearbox is smooth and quick too. This Skoda car has also received a 5-star crash test rating from Bharat NCAP, so it should be safe too.

The new Hyundai Venue is a great option too. It's got more features and tech, but it's not as comfortable as the Skoda, and its auto gearbox isn't as smooth. And while it has a lot of safety features, it hasn't yet been tested by any crash test authority. Most of all, though, spec for spec, it's more expensive than the Kylaq, and doesn't feel like as good a value for money.

It offers the convenience of an automatic, a comfortable ride and a slightly higher driving position, which helps build confidence for a first-time driver. It also fits well within your ₹13 lakh budget, making it a sensible and practical choice for your needs.However, you should be aware that the AMT gearbox can feel a bit jerky at low speeds in stop-go traffic, which is something you will experience in your daily 6-7 km runs.The Skoda Kylaq is also worth a serious look. In fact, you can get the automatic in the Signature variant at a similar price to the Nexon Creative. While it misses out on a few features, nothing feels like a deal breaker, and it still comes with all the essentials. More importantly, its torque converter automatic is smoother and easier to drive in traffic. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza automatic is another strong option, especially for a first-time buyer, as it is very easy to drive, smooth in traffic and known for low running and maintenance costs.So the choice comes down to priorities. Pick the Hyundai Venue turbo petrol-DCT. Its 3995 mm footprint, light steering, and automatic gearbox make tight city traffic, U‑turns, and parking simpler than the larger Elevate.For city use, a smaller size is the biggest win. The Hyundai Venue is about 317 mm shorter than the Elevate (3995 mm vs ~4312 mm), so squeezing into gaps, basement ramps, and narrow parking slots is easier. The DCT automatic is convenient in bumper‑to‑bumper traffic, and the Venue's lighter controls mean it's easier to drive in the city and to park.The one thing you give up is rear space and boot volume. The Elevate’s longer body (about 300+ mm) seats three adults and carries weekend luggage more comfortably. If you regularly carry 4-5 adults or prefer a very smooth CVT feel over quick shifts, consider the Honda Elevate V CVT instead.
