I'm looking to buy an EV in the 13-15 lakh budget range. Right now, the Punch EV seems to be the best fit. Can anyone share if a next-generation Nexon EV based on the ACTI EV platform is expected anytime soon? If the launch is not too far away, I can wait and opt for the larger car instead. Thanks in advance for any information.

Go ahead with the Tata Punch EV now, because an all-new Nexon EV is a long way off, and your Rs. 13-15 lakh budget cleanly fits the Punch EV. The current Nexon EV got a big update only recently, so a ground-up platform change is unlikely in the next 12 months. The next-gen Nexon is due likely in 2027, and even so, the ICE model will come first, with the EV likely to follow later, so your wait will be long. When it does come, expect it to be pricier than today’s Nexon EV, so it will likely sit well above your budget anyway.

For your money today, the recently updated Punch EV gives you a modern EV package, a useful range for daily commutes, and it is easier to live with in tight city traffic and parking. If you truly need more cabin and boot space for family trips, the current Nexon EV exists, but getting a well-equipped one will push you beyond Rs 15 lakh on-road in most cities.

Hi everyone, I am a first-time lady driver looking for a safe, reliable, and easy-to-drive automatic hatchback primarily for heavy city traffic. It is also quiet, refined and very cheap to run compared to petrol cars. The range is more than adequate for daily city use, and with home charging, you will never have to worry about fuel stations.The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT are both reliable and easy to drive, but their AMT gearboxes can feel jerky at low speeds, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Tiago EV, by comparison, is seamless and far more relaxing to drive in the city. The only real drawback is that long highway trips require more planning, but for your usage pattern, that is not a major concern.If you are open to a slightly higher budget, the Tata Punch EV is also worth considering as it offers a higher seating position and better visibility, which can be reassuring for a new driver. I currently own a 2023 Tata Tiago Petrol Automatic. My monthly city running is around 600-700km, and about 4km of my daily commute is on extremely rough, rocky roads. My Tiago returns only 8-9kpl. I'm considering replacing it with another automatic car. Since there aren't many CNG automatic options, would an EV be a better choice within a 9 lakh budget?

An electric car can make sense for your needs if you can charge at home. If yes, the Punch EV 30kWh makes sense for your needs, but you will need to stretch your budget closer to Rs 11 lakh. The Punch has better ground clearance than your current Tiago and takes on bad roads very well. The base Smart trim is very bare-bones, so opt for the Smart+ instead.If you must stick to your Rs 9 lakh budget, then the Tiago EV is the only other option. While it will lower your running costs, you will still need to deal with the low ground clearance. Apart from that, the updated Tiago EV's interior will feel like a step up from your 2023 model. The Pure+ trim has most of the basic features covered, and the 19kWh battery should give you sufficient driving range. Just beware, if your current Tiago scrapes its belly on the rough patch you encounter, so will the Tiago EV. If you can't charge at home, the Punch CNG AMT is your best bet, but you will need to stretch your budget to about Rs 10 lakh. It has a dual-tank setup, so you still have a usable boot, the AMT works reasonably well and will make life easier in traffic, and it has the ground clearance you need.Overall, the Tiago EV is a good fit for your needs if you can charge at home. If not, the Punch CNG AMT is worth stretching for.

My daily running is around 70 km. Kindly suggest a small EV car. Advanced features are not my priority. I already own a Tata Sierra.

The Tata Punch EV is a great choice for your needs. Its small size makes it comfortable to drive and it has ample range for your 70km commute. Good ground clearance and a tough build are other highlights on the Punch. Since you are not interested in advanced tech features, you can opt for the base Smart or mid-spec Adventure trim of this Tata car. For added peace of mind, opt for the larger 40kWh battery. While it does cost a significant bit more than 30kWh versions, you get more real world range as well a more powerful motor and peppier performance. Alternately, you could consider the Tata Tiago EV that is also fresh from an update.

The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive. Fuel efficiency is decent; expect 9 to 10kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway.If you want something a bit more efficient, consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In our testing we managed 12.7kpl in the city and 19kpl on the highway with the AGS. However, height adjustment for the driver's seat is only available on the ZXi trim onwards.Overall, the Hyundai Exter AMT is the better fit for your requirements.
