I live in Hyderabad and am planning to purchase a new car with a budget of ₹12 lakh, extendable up to ₹15 lakh on-road. My monthly usage is 800 km in the city, and once every quarter, more than 1,800 km on highways. I am 30 years old, 6'1", and heavily built. While travelling on highways, I need strong performance, as I am used to driving my friend’s Innova Crysta on highways. My priorities are safety, features and interiors, mileage, performance, comfort, and ease of driving. My 2021 Kia Sonet delivered 13–15 kmpl in Hyderabad city traffic and 18–20 kmpl on highways. I would prefer similar mileage in my new car without worrying about fuel efficiency. Can diesel be considered in 2026? I plan to test drive the exact suggested configurations, so specific recommendations would really help.

Since you already own the Sonet, a natural replacement for you would be the Kia Syros, which has broad and comfy seats, huge cabin space, and with high quality interiors and a lengthy equipment list, it certainly feels like you've spent your money well. The HTK+ Diesel MT variant should easily fall within your budget, and because it uses the same engine and gearbox as the Sonet, you could expect similar (or slightly lower) efficiency and performance too.

Alternatively, you could consider a Mahindra XUV 3XO Diesel MT, which is like a tough, confident compact SUV with excellent driving dynamics and strong performance.

Yes, you can consider diesel in 2026 as Hyderabad does not have the 10-year diesel cap that applies in NCR. Also, your periodic highway drives will also help keep the DPF healthy.

3xo AX5 Diesel variant comes within my budget. Should I go for it?

Or AX7 cabin with white interiors looks more spacious because of the color. And there are additional interiors for this variant. Should I stretch my budget to AX7 ? Does it add value over the AX5 for the price difference? And is it okay if I ask them for MFG 2025 car, so I can can get it at a discounted price (or) better to go with 2026 cars itself

I am currently using a 2016 Ford Aspire Petrol. My budget is up to Rs. 20 lakh, and my annual running is around 7,000 km, mostly in the city. I am extremely confused about whether I should buy a petrol car in 2026, considering the ongoing ethanol-blending developments, or switch to an EV. EVs seem very attractive, but I am unsure about long-term maintenance concerns since the technology is still relatively new, and my usage is quite low. The one factor that works strongly in favour of an EV is that I have a solar power plant at home, so charging would not be an issue and would effectively be free. On the other hand, buying a petrol car would involve a much lower upfront investment. I have received an offer for a 2025 Kia Syros top-end variant at an on-road price of Rs. 14.5 lakh, with features such as ventilated front and rear seats, ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and Harman Kardon speakers. However, I am concerned about owning a petrol car over the next 10-12 years. Please guide me on what would be the better choice.

With your low usage, most of which is in the city, an EV actually makes a lot of sense. With solar panels installed, your daily running costs will literally be zero, and we assume you'll be able to set up a home charger that makes use of this. With fuel prices the way they are at the moment, this will go a long way in offsetting the added upfront cost of an EV. Plus, there are the inherent benefits of an EV like refinement, smoothness and instantaneous response, which is great for traffic. While there are downsides to EVs, hidden maintenance problems aren't one of them. In fact, maintenance is much lower compared to an ICE vehicle, as there are fewer components to repair or replace, and the same goes for fluids and consumables. Things you will need to note: Range will always be on your mind and longer journeys will need planning, should you take them in your EV. In the long run, as the battery deteriorates, you may notice minor losses in power and range; and finally, when the battery reaches the end of its life, which is usually expected to be at least 10 years, the replacement cost is very high, and thus resale value of EVs tends to be quite low. Yes, there's uncertainty about petrol blending at the moment, but at the current standard of E20, all new cars are compatible and safe. The Kia Syros is an excellent car with loads of space and features, and good engines. So if you're getting a good deal and are happy with the car, consider going for it. An EV for the same money will not get you the same amount of space or features.

My priorities are: 1) Performance, 2) Mileage and ownership cost, 3) Features, and 4) Rear-seat and boot space. Please advise and suggest the best-value variant as well. I am inclined towards a manual.

Our first recommendation would be the new Venue Turbo Petrol Manual. It strikes the best balance for your priorities. The turbo petrol engine is punchy and enjoyable to drive, fuel efficiency is respectable, and Hyundai's ownership experience is generally hassle-free. The latest Hyundai Venue is also more spacious than before, particularly in the rear seat, and feels like a very well-rounded first car. For value, we would look at the SX Turbo Manual, which gets a good mix of features without stretching the budget too much.Our second choice would be the Mahindra XUV 3XO. If outright performance and rear seat space are your priorities, it is arguably the strongest car here. The turbo petrol engine is lively, the rear bench is among the widest in the segment, and it feels more substantial than the Venue. The downside is that fuel efficiency is not as strong, and the boot is one of the smallest in the class. The MX2 Pro or AX5 Manual would be the variants to consider, depending on your budget.The Tata Nexon would be our third choice. It remains a good all-round package with decent space, a strong feature list and good road presence. However, compared to the newer Venue and 3XO, it does not feel quite as polished, and neither the driving experience nor the ownership proposition is as compelling.

I am planning to purchase a new automatic car and am confused between the Honda Amaze ZX CVT and the Skoda Kylaq Signature Plus AT. My usage will be around 90% city driving, primarily for office commuting between Dwarka, Delhi and my office near IFFCO Chowk, Gurugram (approximately 25 km one way). However, I will not be driving daily, as I often use the Metro as well. The car will also be driven by my 69-year-old father, so ease of driving, comfort, visibility, ingress/egress, and reliability are important considerations. Our previous car was an Alto K10 Manual, so this will be our first automatic car and a significant upgrade. Considering my usage pattern, family profile and the fact that we intend to keep the car for a long period for around 10 years, which of these two would you recommend?

Based on your requirement, we would recommend the Honda Amaze ZX CVT over the Skoda Kylaq Signature+ AT. The reason is that your priorities are not outright performance or driving excitement. You are looking for a car that will spend 90% of its life in city traffic, will also be driven by your 69-year-old father, and is expected to stay with the family for around 10 years. In that context, Amaze's strengths line up perfectly with your requirements. The CVT is smoother than the Kylaq's torque converter automatic in stop-and-go traffic, visibility is excellent, the car is easy to place on the road, ingress and egress are straightforward, and Honda's long-term reliability record is hard to fault. Coming from an Alto K10, it will already feel like a substantial upgrade in comfort, refinement and features.The Kylaq Signature Plus AT is the more desirable car from an enthusiast's perspective. The 1.0 TSI turbo petrol has more punch, the higher seating position is nice, and the overall package feels more substantial. However, it is also a larger vehicle to manoeuvre, and while the automatic is good, it is not quite as seamless in everyday traffic as Honda's CVT.Another point in Amaze's favour is that the ZX variant gets Honda Sensing ADAS, which adds useful safety features without making the car complicated to operate. Since your father will also be driving it, that extra layer of safety is a nice bonus.
