Which car is better between the Mercedes GLE 300d or the BMW X5 xLine D?

While similarly priced as the entry-level versions of their respective model ranges, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 300d and BMW X5 xDrive30d xLine take two different approaches. The Mercedes-Benz uses a less powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine, while the BMW retains the 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine.

However, while the BMW sacrifices some features in this variant owing to the lesser xLine trim, the Mercedes comes in the fully loaded AMG Line trim. Thus, if you drive yourself even occasionally, the powerful 6-cylinder BMW will likely be the better choice for you, but if you're mainly chauffeur-driven, the Mercedes-Benz with its greater creature comforts and more spacious back seat is the better bet.

Please suggest some options. In the neo-retro bike space, you can get credible options from Honda, Royal Enfield and Triumph. The Honda CB350 models and Royal Enfield 350s are similar in that they use big, air-cooled engines that prioritize torque over outright horsepower. However, the Honda bikes are lighter than the REs, which will impact the riding experience significantly. What sways the decision towards the Royal Enfields bikes is that they have a strong low-and mid-range torque output. It results in a more effortless riding experience in the city without too many gear changes. The Triumph 400s use a liquid-cooled, 399cc engine with significantly more power and torque than the Honda and RE 350s, and they also have a sportier chassis. As a result, their riding experience is more modern, and they feel significantly quicker. Depending on what you want from your neo-retro machine, the answer will differ, so we recommend you take a test ride to decide what suits you best.

Asked by: N I am planning to buy my first bike with a budget of 2-2.5 lakh. I test rode the CB350RS, Meteor and Guerrilla 450. I didn’t find the CB350RS comfortable, the Meteor felt good but lacked highway power, and the Guerrilla 450 is over budget. I want a bike with a non-aggressive riding position and good comfort on highways and potholes. Please suggest suitable options. Since this is your first bike, starting small and approachable would be the smart way to go about it. In that same vein, we would recommend the new Yamaha XSR155 because it is a light, comfortable, fuel-efficient machine that's also reasonably exciting to use. If you want a larger machine, then bikes like the Honda CB300F, Bajaj Pulsar N250 and Suzuki Gixxer 250 would be good options. Take a test ride of everything you shortlist before you decide.
