I’m planning to buy the Kia Seltos GTXO and am confused between the Turbo Petrol Automatic and the Diesel Automatic. My driving is a mix of city commutes and highway trips, although the majority of it is in the city. My annual running is around 10,000 km. I currently drive a diesel-manual Maruti Dzire, so I’m accustomed to the strong mileage of a diesel car. Initially, I was inclined towards the petrol Seltos, but I’m concerned about its lower fuel mileage compared to the diesel. At the same time, while the diesel offers better mileage, it comes with a DPF system that may require additional attention, especially with predominantly city driving. Considering my driving pattern, annual running, and the mix of city and highway usage, which would be the better choice for me: the Kia Seltos GTXO Turbo Petrol Automatic or the Diesel Automatic?

With your annual running of around 10,000 km and a majority of city driving, the diesel’s fuel savings will take a long time to offset the higher purchase price. More importantly, the diesel’s DPF system is not ideal for predominantly city usage, as it relies on regular highway runs to regenerate properly. The turbo petrol, paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, is a strong performer and well suited to your mix of city and highway driving. It is responsive, refined and does not come with the DPF-related concerns of the diesel. Yes, the turbo petrol is not as fuel efficient as the diesel, but given your usage pattern, it is the more sensible and hassle-free choice. If you were doing significantly higher annual mileage with more highway driving, the diesel would make sense, but in your case, the turbo petrol is the better fit.

I am currently driving a 2013 Honda City i-VTEC. I don’t have frequent usage, with around 30-40 km of running per week and rare highway trips. There are seven members in my family, so I want to upgrade to a car with good reliability, features, low maintenance costs, and better resale value, with a budget of Rs. 20 lakh. I am confused between the Seltos and the Hyryder. Should I also consider the XUV 7XO or Alcazar, or are there any other options I should consider?

The Clavis wasn’t part of your shortlist, but with seven members in the family, it is worth adding to the list. It makes more sense than the Seltos or Hyryder because you get a genuinely usable third row without making a major compromise on your budget, as it is around the same price. It also suits your very low running costs better than a hybrid, while offering easy city driving and relatively low running and maintenance costs.If you specifically want an SUV, the Mahindra XUV 7XO would be the next option. It offers stronger performance, a more substantial SUV feel and better highway ability, although it is larger and will cost more to run.The Seltos and Hyryder remain good five-seaters, but with seven people in the family, the third row will eventually become a requirement rather than a luxury.

Hi, I am currently using an i20 Active diesel and am looking for a change to an automatic. Could you please suggest a diesel automatic car, such as the Sierra, Creta, Seltos, or any other suitable option? My usage is around 20-30% in the city and 70-80% on long drives.

I am new to driving and am looking for a sub-4-metre petrol SUV with a torque converter automatic gearbox. My budget is around Rs 12-13 lakh on-road. Which car should I buy among Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Petrol base or Kia Seltos petrol base? And also tell me if anyone has faced power issue or pickup issue while overtaking as I want the car for long term.

Between the two, the Seltos is the better choice, especially if you are looking at the base variant. It feels more premium, is the newer product and offers a more complete package even in its lower variants.The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol makes 115hp and 144Nm. It isn't a particularly powerful engine, but it is smooth and refined and is perfectly adequate for normal city driving.For overtaking, it won't have the punch of the Seltos turbo, but it isn't underpowered either. With a full load and during quick highway overtakes, you may need to plan ahead and use higher revs. The Grand Vitara's 1.5 petrol is also a smooth, simple powertrain, but its performance is more relaxed and the base variant is quite sparsely equipped.
