I'm considering upgrading from my Honda Amaze Diesel to a new Kia Seltos IVT HTX (A). My primary concern is whether the Seltos, with its IVT transmission, can handle a full load as well as my current Amaze, which has a turbo diesel engine. My monthly driving is around 500 km, and I take one or two long trips of around 1200 km annually. Apart from performance with full load, mileage is also a concern. Is this a good upgrade, or are there better alternatives available?

The Kia Seltos IVT is a good upgrade over your Honda Amaze. The Seltos is more spacious, comfortable, and feature-rich than the Amaze, and the IVT gearbox is very smooth and efficient.

The Seltos' 1.5-litre petrol engine is also quite refined, and while it isn't as punchy as the Amaze's diesel engine, it is more than adequate for city and highway use even with a full load. The IVT gearbox is also very smooth and efficient, and you won't complain much when it comes to performance.

Where the Seltos will not be as good as your old Amaze is the efficiency. The petrol-IVT combination isn't the best in the Seltos range, but you can still expect around 12kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway. If you have the budget and don't mind a diesel, you can get the Seltos in its diesel guise, which will offer at least a couple of kpl more.

Thanks for the response. Considering the mileage and diesel-related issues, I'm leaning towards a petrol option. Would you recommend the DCT? Also, how is the resale market for the Seltos DCT? In the 2026 Kia Seltos, which fuel variant is hot selling?

I drive an I 20, which is now 13 years old,- done only 20 k on the odometer. My primary need is s small car with higher seating. My monthly drive us around 1000 kms with one outstation trip of 1200-1300 kms annually. Delhi to Lucknow. I would not want to spend more than Rs 10-12 lakhs. Please suggest

I am looking to purchase a new SUV in exchange for my Ciaz Diesel. We are a family of five, and my usage is low and mostly within the city (350-400 km monthly) with a quarterly outstation trip (500-600 km). My main requirements are a car that has good mileage/range, a good audio system, a large boot space and high acceleration (I like quick acceleration but not necessarily at very high speeds). The Ciaz seemed perfect so far, but now it's 11 years old, and I would like to change to an SUV for better ground clearance. I prefer not to have to spend often (for cars with low upfront cost but less mileage). My preferred budget is up to ₹20 lakh. So far, I liked the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Mahindra XEV 9S for their overall drivability. However, since they both are nearly ₹30 lakh on-road in Bangalore, I was trying to look for other alternatives at a slightly cheaper cost. I have heard horror stories of Tata service and hence would prefer to avoid Tata cars (even though I loved driving the Harrier as well).

That's a tricky requirement as strong acceleration and good fuel economy tend to be at odds with one another. A diesel engine would be good for mileage, but none of the engines in this price range is particularly quick at accelerating. Thus, we'd recommend going for a Turbo Petrol engine, which, if driven carefully, can return a good amount of kilometres for every litre.Your best option, given your requirements, is the new Kia Seltos. It's spacious, comfortable, reliable and reasonably priced in terms of maintenance. Within your budget of Rs 20 lakh, you should be able to get the HTX T-GDi DCT variant, which also includes the excellent-sounding 8-speaker Bose premium audio system. There's also a sizeable 447-litre boot that's well-shaped and good for swallowing up a sizeable amount of luggage.

I currently own a 2018 Honda WR-V diesel manual (6-speed), which has run about 50,000 km, along with a Tata EV purchased in 2023, which has covered around 20,000 km. I have now decided to replace my WR-V with a BS6 diesel automatic car. Could you please suggest which diesel automatic model would be the best choice according to Autocar?

If an upgrade necessarily means a larger car for you, the Mahindra 3XO won't be the right move after a Honda City. You'd be best served by midsized SUVs, which measure between 4.3 and 4.5m. Of the current crop of mid-sized SUVs, the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Tata Sierra are the best-rounded. The new-gen Renault Duster that launches on March 17 also has promise.If vehicle size isn't a dealbreaker, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is a good pick. It's got powerful petrol engines, feels solid, and ride and handling are also impressive. The interior is also spacious for what is a compact SUV, and higher-spec versions pack in loads of equipment too. In fact, a fully-loaded 3XO is better equipped than a fully-loaded City.Within the compact SUV segment, you could also consider the Hyundai Venue, which is a well-rounded package.
