Hello Autocar team, I have been following you for close to a decade. Your reviews are comprehensive and unbiased as well. I have one question: What is the future of Jeep products like the Compass, considering there have been no major upgrades, updates, or new models? Is it worth buying one, as I am not sure how long the brand can sustain itself in the Indian market? Looking forward to your response.

Your concern is completely understandable, because when you buy into a brand, you are also buying into its long-term ecosystem, not just the car itself. The Jeep Compass and Meridian are still genuinely competent products with strong build quality, excellent ride and handling, and a premium feel that many rivals still do not quite match. So from a pure product perspective, there is still a lot to like.

At the same time, product momentum has clearly slowed, and the lack of major new launches naturally raises questions. The good news is that Jeep is not exiting India, and there are future plans in place, but the next big all new product is still a year away. The brand may be in a quieter phase, but there is no sign of an abrupt India exit. In fact, Jeep has already outlined its future plans for the Indian market.

The bigger practical considerations are ownership confidence and resale. Jeep’s aftersales experience can be very good in some cities and less convincing in others, and resale values are not as strong as more mainstream premium rivals like Toyota. That said, if you are someone who buys a car to keep for several years rather than worrying about frequent upgrades, that becomes less of an issue.

We currently own a 2018 Hyundai Creta, but my mother is retiring next year and loves big cars. I'm looking for a 7-seater, preferably with a manual transmission, and my budget is around 45 lakh. If you want a more SUV-looking option and still a manual, the Jeep Meridian diesel manual is worth a look for its sharper cabin and nicer highway manners, but for space, toughness and hassle-free ownership, the Toyota car fits your brief best.

Hi team, I already own a 2022 Tata Safari and want to replace it with a more powerful, comfortable, and feature-rich SUV. My budget is Rs. 35 lakh (on-road). I checked out the MG Majestor, but it is out of my budget, as the on-road price is around Rs. 48 lakh. I also looked at the Toyota Hycross, but I didn't like its interior. Kindly suggest the best 7-seater SUV within my budget. I usually drive in the city, covering around 30-40 km daily, and take one or two trips to hill stations every year.

At this price point and with your requirements, there isn't much choice available so the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel would be the most sensible option. It offers a more powerful diesel engine, a more refined driving experience and a premium cabin with a strong feature set. The diesel engine is punchy and well suited to both city driving and occasional hill station runs. The third row is not as spacious or comfy as your Tata Safari but it is usable. If the Mahindra car does not feel like an upgrade, you could consider the Jeep Meridian. It would feel larger and has a premium and classy cabin. The diesel engine of this Jeep car is the proven and familiar 2.0 litre multijet unit - the same engine that powers the diesel Safari. The Meridian will also do well for your long drives to hill stations as the ride and handling balance is outstanding with a secure handling for the ghats, good highway stability at higher speeds and a well judged ride quality over broken roads.

The CVT automatic is also a reliable and smooth unit, well-suited to city driving.The Elevate is not the most feature-rich or the most exciting car in the segment, but it is a genuinely well-rounded SUV. It has a comfortable ride, good ground clearance and a spacious cabin, and Honda’s service network is strong in most major cities. The only real drawback is that the engine of this Honda car is not as punchy as some turbocharged rivals, so highway overtakes require a bit more planning, and cabin refinement is not as good as rivals.Overall, if your priority is a dependable, fuss-free car that you can keep for a long time, the Elevate is one of the best choices in the segment. I'm planning to buy a small automatic car for my wife, who is 5'1" tall. The car will be used mostly in the city, with occasional highway trips. Which would be the best option?

For your wife, consider the Hyundai Exter. At 5'1", she will benefit from its good all-round visibility, light steering and compact dimensions, which make it very easy to manoeuvre in city traffic and tight parking spaces. This Hyundai car also gets driver's seat height adjustment from the base trim, which will be very handy for your wife. The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive. Fuel efficiency is decent; expect 9 to 10kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway.If you want something a bit more efficient, consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In our testing we managed 12.7kpl in the city and 19kpl on the highway with the AGS. However, height adjustment for the driver's seat is only available on the ZXi trim onwards.Overall, the Hyundai Exter AMT is the better fit for your requirements. It is simple, reliable, easy to drive and well-suited to both city use and occasional highway trips.
