I own a Maruti Suzuki Ritz and want to replace it with a sedan. Should I choose the Hyundai Verna or the Honda City? I am looking for a car that is smooth and easy to drive.

Pick the City, ideally the petrol automatic, because this Honda car is the smoothest and easiest to drive in traffic. Its engine is very calm at low speeds, and the automatic glides along without fuss; the steering is light, and the big glass area makes it simple to place in tight streets. Coming from a Ritz, the driving position and light controls of this sedan car will feel natural, and the cabin is roomier, so family runs are easier too.

The Verna is a strong second option if you want a sharper look and extra features. The 1.5 petrol with the automatic is smooth enough, but the turbo with the automatic can feel a bit snappy in stop-go, which takes away from that easy driving you want. The Hyundai Verna price starts at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hyundai Verna mileage is up to 20.6kpl, while the Honda City mileage reaches 27.26kpl with the hybrid powertrain. 

If your priority is a relaxed, fuss-free sedan for city use with occasional highway trips, go City. It just feels effortless.

Sir, if you have no budget issues then go for Kia Clavis Diesel MT/AT without any hesitation. Which is a superb 7 seater.

Maruti suzuki must reintroduce the Ritz by upgreading features and dimensions. I don't know the reason why such a spacious and comfotable vehicle was suddenly discontinued. Ritz had a very good diesel engine, the AC was perfect, legroom and head was fantastic for tall people. The boot space was very good. The mileage was very excellent. It was a perfect car for middle class people.

The Tata Punch EV makes for a sensible upgrade for your daily 45km use. It will be far more efficient and cheaper to run than your Honda City, and the compact size makes it easy to manoeuvre in city traffic. The question of whether to keep the City comes down to how you plan to use the car. If the Punch EV will be your only car, it is worth keeping the City as a backup for longer journeys. However, if the Punch EV will be dedicated to the school run and you have access to another car for longer journeys, it makes sense to exchange the City and reduce your overall ownership costs. This Tata car is a reliable and practical choice for your daily commute, but keeping the City as a backup gives you flexibility if you need it.

I want to buy a family use car under 15 lakh. I am confused between Tata Sierra and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. It is the more sensible family car and will give you a better long-term ownership experience. The Grand Vitara is a proven product with a comfortable ride, good real world fuel efficiency and Maruti’s strong service network, which makes it a very easy car to live with. It is also a well-rounded family SUV with enough space for five, a decent boot and a good balance between city and highway use.The Tata Sierra is a more interesting product with a more premium cabin and a more distinctive design, but it is a newer car with a shorter ownership track record and Tata’s service experience is still not as consistent as Maruti’s. For a family car under Rs.15 lakh, the Grand Vitara is the safer and more sensible choice.

Hi, which would be a good first car among Victoris VXI AT, Victoris VXI Strong Hybrid, or Seltos HTK IVT? What sort of discounts are available on the Victoris Strong Hybrid variants that could sweeten the deal? My maximum budget is Rs. 15 lakh ex-showroom. We are 4 members in the family with a pet dog. My usage is 80% in Bengaluru city, with a monthly running of less than 1,000 km. I am considering the hybrid if the pricing is good; otherwise, I am happy with the NA petrol variants. The purchase is not urgent, and I can wait until the end of 2026 or Q1 2027 as well.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT petrol. With your usage of less than 1,000km a month and 80% city driving in Bengaluru, the strong hybrid does not make financial sense unless you are getting a very substantial discount. The petrol automatic is smooth, reliable and well suited to city traffic, and the Brezza is a proven, fuss-free ownership proposition with Maruti’s service reach and low running costs. The Seltos HTK IVT and the Victoris VXI AT are good cars, but at Rs. 15 lakh ex-showroom you are at the lower end of their range and will be compromising on features, whereas the Brezza ZXI AT is a more complete package at that price point. The Seltos and Victoris are bigger, but not my much and the premium you pay does not justify the entry-level variants. The Brezza also has a comfortable rear seat and a decent boot, which will suit a family of four plus a pet dog and is a better deal overall.

Go for the Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI Sport. Coming from a Polo and Vento automatic, you already appreciate Volkswagen’s driving DNA, and the Taigun 1.5 TSI is a natural progression. The engine is punchy, the DSG gearbox is quick and engaging, and the overall driving experience is far more involving than the Seltos. The Taigun also feels more compact and agile in the city, while still being comfortable on the highway. The Volkswagen Taigun mileage is 19.54 kpl for the 1.0 TSI AT, 19.98 kpl for the 1.0 TSI MT, and 18.85 kpl for the 1.5 TSI DCT.The Kia Seltos diesel X-Line is a strong all-rounder with better space, a more premium cabin and a more relaxed long-distance character, but it does not offer the same level of driver engagement. The diesel engine is efficient and torquey, but it lacks the excitement of the 1.5 TSI. Given your history with Volkswagen cars, the Taigun will simply feel more familiar and more enjoyable to drive every day. The Taigun price starts at Rs 11.00 lakh (ex-showroom).

With 5,000-7,000 km a year and mostly city driving, you are the ideal EV buyer. The Mahindra XEV 9S in its top-spec Pack Three guise will comfortably fit in your budget. With a 79kWh battery pack, you can easily expect a real-world range of around 480km in daily driving conditions. The 9S is also a full-size SUV with three rows, so practicality is excellent. There is a usable frunk as well, and the feature list is extensive with connected tech, panoramic sunroof, front and rear ventilated seats, drive modes, Level 2 ADAS and much more. Also, with 286hp, the 9S has plenty of performance for everyday needs. The overall package strikes a good balance and hence is our recommendation.
