Hi, I’m Ram from Bangalore. I am planning to buy a new Hyundai Venue HX5 Turbo petrol, but many of my friends are warning me about the mileage. My usage is very low. Now I am thinking of buying the same variant in diesel, but I believe the maintenance costs are higher. Could you kindly suggest whether I should choose petrol or diesel?

If your usage is very low, then it is not advisable to buy a diesel car. The Hyundai Venue turbo petrol is a good option for you and will be more than sufficient for your needs.

Yes, the mileage will be lower than the diesel, but it should be fine given your low running. For reference, in our real-world fuel efficiency tests, the mechanically-identical Kia Sonet turbo petrol-DCT returned 11.6kpl in the city and 16.5kpl on the highway, so you can expect similar figures from the Venue as well.

No I having turbo automatic dct petrol average in Mumbai traffic some times gives 2-3 kmpl in heavy traffic and 9.3 depends upon your luck try for maruti fronx or hybrid grand vitara.

I would suggest diesel, am using HX7 ... Just a single tag line about the diesel variant " Excellent performance oriented and Mileage"... So far am getting any average of 18.2 Kmpl in highway...if you maintain speed limit of 80to90 then ur mileage would increase to 20.5 for sure... City drive 12 to 15 Kmpl...

Buy diesel if your monthly run is between 1500-2000 km. Else, just get a petrol car. Venue mileage in city comes between 11-13 km/l depending upon traffic situation and your driving style. On highways and expressways, expect it to be between 16-18 km/l.

The ride is comfortable over uneven patches and speed breakers. The cabin is spacious for four, offers a high driving position, and provides good visibility, making daily driving feel easy. For the price, the AX5 packs the key features and safety most people actually use.A few trade-offs to note. In slow, heavy traffic, the manual can tire your left leg, so if your daily drive is bumper-to-bumper, the smooth-shifting automatic may be worth a look. The boot is not the biggest, so two large suitcases can be a squeeze.About not seeing many in Chennai, that is a bit surprising, as it is a strong seller for Mahindra, clocking over 1 lakh units in FY2026.
