I am planning to buy the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, but am confused between the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder engine. My driving will be around 60% on highways and 40% in the city. Could you please suggest which engine option would be better suited for my usage?

Considering your 60% highway and 40% city usage, we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 turbo petrol.

The turbo engine offers much stronger performance, especially on the highway. Overtakes feel quicker and more effortless, which is important for highway driving. It also comes with a proper 6-speed automatic, which is smoother and more refined compared to the AMT offered with the 1.2 engine, making it better suited for both city and highway use.

The 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, on the other hand, is smoother and simpler, but it feels less powerful, especially on highways. The AMT gearbox is convenient but not as smooth as the automatic offered with the turbo variant.

Hi there, fronx is unstable at higher speeds on highways once you touch 80+on oddo.better go for 1.2,4 cylinder which offers quite enough power. Don't waste your hard earned money on turbo, rather stretch ur budget and go for creta or seltos base, which offers more features than fronx. And u will get bored with the car interior in short time. Using fronx 1.2 delta since 3 years.

I never felt this unstability even after touching 140. Please get your wheel alignment check. However for highway the person says drives for 60%, i think NA is still ok.. it is enough reliable and smooth. There is no problem ... Turbo can be purchased only if you want excessive power and often do a rash driving.

How good is Fronx 1.2 lt automatic and safety factor specially in city driving

Fronx na1. 2 4 cylinder is good option for long time keeping since all are ditching 4 cylinders now , but it offers low power compared to turbo so if your preference is highway drive consider safety and fatigue free drive car , fronx is good for city drive and less than 200kms in one strech after that you feet fatigue since cabin is not roomy, there are more partical cars at same price point take a test drive of all cars then buy

Well it's 60 40 drive good for mostly city and occasional highway drive, the na engine is smooth but power is low on highways but turbo is not value when there are other compitators offering better highway machines , also safety is parameter to consider if you are driving on highway which fronx lacks , otherwise it's stable even at 140 speed and good milage but there is driver fatigue after 2 hours of continuous drive.

Hi, I am a bit confused about whether I should wait for the Maruti Brezza facelift or go ahead and buy the Kia Seltos HTE(O) or the Hyundai Creta E Summer Edition.

Going by your shortlist, you want a bigger family car on a tight budget and are looking at base trims. If you need the car in the next couple of months for mostly city use with some weekend trips, pick the Kia Seltos HTE (O) IVT. It is well equipped and, compared to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, gives you more back-seat space and boot room. The Brezza update will be relatively minor, though we expect the 1.5 NA engine to make way for the 1.0 turbo-petrol from the Fronx. Waiting for it only makes sense if you mainly drive in tight city areas and want an easier-to-park car.Overall, for a near-term purchase and everyday comfort, the Seltos lines up best with what you’re considering.

I am confused between choosing a manual or automatic car, and also between the Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Toyota Taisor/Maruti Fronx. My daily driving is about 8 km in the city, along with a monthly highway trip of over 250 km.

With an 8 km daily city run and one 250 km-plus highway trip a month, go automatic to keep life easy in traffic and still be relaxed on the highway. From your list, the Skoda Kylaq petrol automatic fits you best. It is smooth to drive in stop-start traffic, has strong pull for quick overtakes on your monthly trip, and its compact size makes parking and narrow lanes less stressful. The Kylaq’s ride is comfortable on rough patches, and it feels steady at highway speeds. You also get a good spread of safety and convenience features even in mid trims, which helps on long runs.Trade-offs to note: the cabin can feel a little cramped for rear-seat passengers. If that is a concern, then look at the Mahindra XUV 3XO instead. The Taisor/Fronx turbo-petrols are solid choices too, with better fuel efficiency than the Kylaq, but they will feel a little older on the inside.Overall, for your pattern, the Kylaq petrol automatic is a good choice.

I am from Mumbai and looking to buy a car under ₹10 lakh (on-road). I do not know how to drive, and no one in my family does either, so I plan to buy a car and hire a private tutor to learn, as my experience with a motor driving school was not good. Could you please suggest a beginner-friendly family car that can comfortably seat five healthy adults?

For mostly Mumbai city use, learning to drive from scratch, and a firm Rs. 10 lakh on-road cap, the Renault Triber fits your brief best because it is the only small, easy car in this price that can truly seat five adults in comfort. It works for you for three clear reasons. One, space - the Triber’s cabin is wide, and the rear seat is roomy, so three healthy adults can sit together without rubbing shoulders all the time. Two, it is beginner-friendly - the driving position is high, the view out is clear, and the controls are light, which helps a new driver stay calm in traffic and in tight lanes. Three, it rides well over bad patches and speed breakers you see across Mumbai, so your family will be comfortable. In five-seat mode, the boot is huge for airport runs; you can also use the extra two pop-up seats for short trips if needed.A couple of trade-offs to know. The engine is calm, not fast, so with five on board, it feels best at city speeds and unhurried highway runs. If you pick the AMT, shifts are a bit slow, and you will feel the car pause between gears. If you want a more premium cabin and mainly carry four, look at the Maruti Fronx.

I am 60 years old and have booked the Toyota Innova Hycross top-end variant. My usage will be mostly within the city, along with 4-5 long trips every year. Is this the right choice for my needs, or should I consider any other options? I plan to continue doing long-distance drives comfortably over the next 10 years.

You want a car that is comfortable in the city, easy to drive and capable of doing long trips for the next 10 years. The Toyota Innova Hycross fits this very well. The hybrid system makes it very smooth and quiet in city driving, and the automatic gearbox is effortless, which becomes more important with age. On highways, it is stable, comfortable and built for long-distance travel, which is what the Innova name has always stood for. What really works in your favour is long-term ownership. Toyota’s reliability, strong service network and resale value make it one of the safest bets if you plan to keep the car for many years. The Hycross also offers excellent space, easy ingress and egress and a comfortable ride, which are important for everyday use and for passengers as you grow older.

Hello Autocar, I am planning to buy a sedan, with almost 90% city usage. Please suggest a suitable option. Also, is it true that for my usage, naturally aspirated (NA) engines are better suited than turbo-petrol engines?

For your usage, a naturally aspirated petrol with a CVT or IVT is the best fit. These setups are smoother, easier to drive in traffic and more predictable, which matters far more in city conditions than outright performance. So yes, in your case, NA engines are better suited than turbo petrol. The Hyundai Verna IVT stands out as the most well-rounded option for city driving. The engine is smooth, the IVT gearbox is very intuitive in stop-and-go traffic, and the overall driving experience is effortless. It feels refined and easy to live with daily. The Honda City Hybrid is worth considering if your running is high. It offers excellent fuel efficiency, strong performance and is very easy to drive in the city thanks to its hybrid system. However, it comes with a higher upfront cost, and the battery placement results in a higher boot floor, which slightly affects practicality.Compared to the Verna, the standard Honda City CVT is also an option, but the engine feels a bit noisier, and the gearbox is not as intuitive as the Verna’s IVT in everyday use.

I am looking to buy a spacious automatic SUV within a budget of ₹16 lakh (on-road), preferably petrol. My priorities are good mileage, ride comfort, solid build quality, and overall reliability.

Consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI+ AT for your requirements. The SUV comes with a refined 103hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that's paired with a smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic that has a claimed mileage of 19.8kpl, though real-world numbers will be lower. The Brezza's cabin is comfy and spacious, and the rear seat can also accommodate three adults in relative comfort. While the Brezza is yet to be crash tested, it does come equipped with safety features like 6 airbags, traction control and much more. Being a Maruti, the Brezza will be reliable, and the widespread service network means your ownership experience will be stress-free.
