I am planning to buy the new Punch EV, but am confused between the Windsor EV Base and the Punch EV top models. Which one should I go for?

It really comes down to what you value more from your EV. The Tata Punch EV is a size smaller and, after the recent facelift and near Rs 2 lakh price correction on the top variants, it has become significantly more affordable. As a result, the top spec Punch EV now undercuts the base MG Windsor EV by over a lakh, while offering a lot more equipment for the money.

From a technical and usability point of view, even though we have not yet driven the facelifted version, the Tata Punch EV has a clear advantage in range. Its larger 40 kWh battery pack should deliver a better real-world driving range than the base variant of the MG Windsor EV, which uses a 38 kWh battery. Being smaller and lighter also helps the Punch extract more efficiency from its battery. In top spec form, it is very well equipped, and if most of your driving involves one or two adults. It will feel easier to live with, simpler to drive in traffic and much easier to park in tight city spaces thanks to its compact dimensions. 

The Windsor EV, however, plays to a completely different strength. If you want a larger car with an outstanding sense of space, it is hard to beat even when compared to cars from a segment above. In comparison, while the Punch EV’s rear seat is adequate, it can start to feel cramped for adults on longer drives.

In simple terms, pick the Punch EV top variant if you want better range, more features for the price and a compact, city-friendly EV that will mostly carry two people. Choose the Windsor EV if cabin space and rear seat comfort matter more to you than features and outright range.

Make sure to check the suspensions. I test drove both and found Windsor’s suspension quite bad. Compared to punch ev whose suspension is comparable to top selling non-luxury sedans.

If you have a driver, go for Windsor base model If you mostly travel with family of 4 , go for Windsor base If you or other members have to sit in the car for long time , go for Windsor base If you want to drive yourself, go for Punch , it is better fun as compared to Windsor. If mostly you drive or two travel go for Punch If you love modern gadgets in the car ,go for Punch top model

I am planning to buy a car with a budget of ₹18-19 lakh. My initial choice was the Kia Seltos, but I have noticed that similarly sized EVs like the MG Windsor EV and Mahindra BE 6 (Pack One) are available in a similar price range due to ongoing discounts. My usage is around 800 km per month, mostly within the city (Delhi-NCR), along with occasional outstation trips once or twice a year. Given this, does it make sense to switch to an EV for my usage pattern? Should I spend around ₹18 lakh on a Kia Seltos HTK(O) IVT, opt for a similarly priced variant at around ₹16.5 lakh, or choose an EV like the Windsor at ₹19 lakh and benefit from lower running costs?

Go for the Kia Seltos HTK (O) DCT for your 800 km a month in Delhi NCR and one or two long trips a year, it is the easiest, least-stress choice in your budget. In daily city traffic, the DCT automatic, feels very smooth and makes stop-and-go driving simple. The Seltos is roomy for family use, rides well, and Kia’s service reach in and around Delhi is strong, so ownership is straightforward. For the rare outstation run, you just fill up and go, with no planning around chargers or range.One thing to be aware of is that the 1.5-litre NA engine isn't the most enthusiastic when pushed on the highway. If saving on fuel is your main goal, an EV will help, but at 800 km a month, the extra money you pay upfront will take time to come back.If you have private parking with a socket for home charging, look at the MG Windsor EV Pro. It is smooth and cheap to run in the city, but expect to plan charging stops on highway trips.

I need advice on choosing between the MG Windsor EV and the Tata Curvv EV. Given the ongoing discounts, the Curvv EV variants are now priced similarly to the Windsor EV. My daily usage is mostly in the city, covering around 60-80 km, along with frequent weekend highway drives. While the Windsor EV offers better rear seat space, my primary concerns are safety and ride comfort, especially since I will be travelling with a small child. I would also like to understand how useful ADAS features are on Indian roads. Do they genuinely improve safety, or can they become a hassle, such as sudden braking, particularly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic during daily commutes? Which of these two EVs would be the better choice for my needs?

The Tata Curvv EV rides better, and the suspension handles rough roads well, so your child will not get tossed around. Its rear seat space is reasonable, although its sloping roofline limits headroom for tall adults.As you've rightly mentioned, the MG Windsor feels much roomier, and it's got a huge boot too. However, most functions are embedded in its slow-to-respond touchscreen, and its ride comfort isn't as good as Tata's either. Alternatively, you could check out the Vinfast VF6 and Kia Carens Clavis EV, both of which are (pricier) excellent alternatives to the Curvv EV.As far as ADAS goes, these certainly provide an extra layer of safety, and can be a life-saver in case the driver isn't paying attention. However, it can occasionally feel intrusive, especially in bumper-to-bumper conditions. When other road users cut you off, you could be taken by surprise and slam on the brakes. Hence, it would be better to leave these off for the city, and use them only on the highway.

I am planning to buy a new SUV with a budget of around ₹20 lakh. I am confused between the Renault Duster (new generation) and the Tata Sierra. My usage will primarily be within Delhi for city driving, along with occasional long drives (around once a month). My main priorities are mileage and comfort. Could you please advise which of these would be the better choice? Also, feel free to suggest any other suitable options within my budget that offer better mileage and comfort.

Since comfort is a priority for you, we would recommend the Tata Sierra. The car has a very spacious cabin, and the seats are very comfy too. Against the Renault Duster, the rear seating space in the Sierra is significantly more. As for mileage, we have yet to put the Renault Duster through our instrumented test cycle. But in any case, if mileage is your top priority ahead of comfort, then you would consider waiting for the hybrid Duster. It is likely to launch this festive season or the diesel Sierra, though with a diesel, it's best for every two to three weeks, you have a long drive of around 20 mins with speeds above 50kph to keep the diesel particulate filter in good health. As an alternative, you can consider the strong hybrid versions of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder or the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, where the mileage would be significantly more. In our real-world tests, the Grand Vitara strong hybrid returned an impressive 23.77kpl in the city and 20.39kpl on the highway. In city traffic, the hybrid system mostly runs on the electric motor. One thing to be aware of: the hybrid’s boot is smaller than some rivals because of the battery, so check your luggage fit.
