I want to buy a 7-seater or 8-seater MUV with an on-road budget of up to ₹20 lakh, offering good features and specifications. I am also looking to upgrade from Maruti, as I have been using one for the past 12 years. Please suggest a suitable MUV.

The Kia Carens Clavis is the best 7-seat MPV within your budget of Rs 20 lakh. The well-packaged interior offers comfortable seating for passengers in all three rows, and the middle seat slide function gives the option to maximise middle row room or balance third row space, as required. A one-touch flip and fold middle row seat also enables relatively easy access to the third row.The Carens Clavis is also well-finished and comes well-equipped. We'd recommend the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that offers good performance even with a full load of passengers. If your priority is features and equipment, you could get the manual gearbox version in HTX trim that packs in goodies like a 12.25-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof and more.On the other hand, if you are looking for driving convenience, there's the option of a dual-clutch auto too. Opting for the DCT will require you to go one trim down to the HTK Plus (O), which misses some features and frills.

I am planning to upgrade my car and am considering the Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder or Kia Seltos, with a maximum budget of ₹16 lakh. I am not an enthusiastic driver and only need essential features such as a large infotainment system, alloy wheels and leatherette seats. Features like a sunroof, turbo engine or head-up display are not necessary. Which car and which variant should I opt for with a petrol manual transmission?

The Kia Seltos is the best pick of the models on your shortlist. It's got a refined petrol engine and smooth manual gearbox, and delivers better performance on the whole. What also works in the Seltos' favour is its comfier ride quality. Further, the Seltos is a larger vehicle and offers significantly more passenger space. Within Rs 16 lakh, you could get the Seltos 1.5 MT HTK that gets features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and part-leatherette seats.

Please suggest a good CNG car with an AMT automatic gearbox within a budget of Rs 15 to 17 lakh, along with reasonable fuel efficiency.

Since you want a CNG-AMT car, your options are limited. Currently, only three models in our market come with a CNG-AMT automatic powertrain - the Tata Tiago hatchback, the Tata Tigor compact sedan and the Nissan Magnite compact SUV. All fall within your budget, so choose depending on which body style you prefer. The Tata Tiago CNG AMT price starts at Rs 7.23 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.10 lakh, while the Tigor CNG AMT is priced from Rs 8.19 lakh up to Rs 8.74 lakh. Nissan Magnite CNG AMT prices range from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 9.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hi guys, I live in Delhi NCR and currently own an 8-year-old Toyota Innova Crysta, which I am planning to replace. I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Toyota Innova HyCross and Skoda Kodiaq. Parameters to hit are good space with all rows in use, comfort, strong performance with reasonable fuel efficiency, and long-term reliability. Which one should I choose?

Given your requirement for space with all rows up, the Toyota Innova HyCross makes the most sense for you. It is easily the roomiest of the three options on your shortlist and stands out for third row space and comfort. There is plenty of adjustability in the seats, too, allowing all passengers to find a good compromise. Of the versions available, we'd suggest you consider the strong hybrid powertrain that delivers exceptional real-world fuel economy for a vehicle of this size. The powertrain is unexciting, but performance is good enough. Also worth bringing in is the fact that this Toyota car has bulletproof reliability, which is something important to you.
