India’s electric two-wheeler market continues to see strong momentum in 2025, with retail sales in August clocking 1,04,306 units, up 17 percent year-on-year (YoY). This is the second-best monthly performance so far this year, taking total sales from January to August to 8,13,893 units, a 12 percent YoY growth, and already 71 percent of 2024’s record 11.4 lakh units. At the forefront of this growth is TVS Motor Co., which has firmly held the top sales position since April.

TVS Motor Company

August 2025: 24,087 units, 23 percent market share

The TVS iQube continues to hold the crown as India’s bestselling electric scooter, with 24,087 units retailed in August. This translates to a 23 percent market share and gives TVS a clear lead of over 5,000 units over Ola Electric. Between April and August alone, the company sold 1,16,749 e-scooters, a robust 64 percent YoY growth, while CY2025 year-to-date sales of 1,90,498 units are already 86 percent of its record 2024 performance.

The recent addition of the TVS Orbiter, positioned alongside the base iQube variant, should bolster the manufacturer’s presence in the market, and we’ll see how that pans out over the next few months – especially as the festive season approaches.

Ola Electric

August 2025: 18,972 units, 18 percent market share

Ola Electric regained momentum in the latter half of August to edge past Ather Energy and secure the No. 2 spot. The company retailed 18,972 units, giving it an 18 percent market share and helping it cross the 9 lakh cumulative sales milestone. However, August volumes were still 31 percent lower year-on-year, underlining the volatility in its performance. For now, the S1 scooter range remains the backbone of Ola’s sales.

Ather Energy

August 2025: 17,856 units, 17 percent market share

Ather Energy registered its best-ever monthly sales in August, with volumes up 62 percent year-on-year, climbing to third place in the rankings. The Rizta family scooter continues to be its primary growth driver, accounting for over 60 percent of sales. With year-to-date sales at 1,16,046 units – already 92 percent of its CY2024 total – Ather is firmly on track to cross 1.75 lakh units in 2025. At its recent Community Day event, the Bengaluru-based company also announced the new EL platform alongside key software and feature upgrades for its existing models.

Hero MotoCorp

August 2025: 13,313 units, 13 percent market share

Hero MotoCorp has notched up its best-ever monthly EV sales for the second month in a row, driven by strong demand for the new Vida VX2. The company retailed 13,313 units in August, giving it a 13 percent market share and pushing it up to fourth place, ahead of Bajaj Auto. Compared to August 2024, when it sold just 4,759 units, Hero’s performance represents a remarkable 180 percent year-on-year growth.

Bajaj Auto

August 2025: 11,730 units, 11 percent market share

Bajaj Auto slipped to fifth place in August as production of the Chetak was hit by a shortage of rare earth magnets. Retail sales dropped to 11,730 units, a 30 percent decline year-on-year compared to 16,818 units in August 2024. The company has since resumed full production and is actively developing alternate magnet technologies to reduce reliance on rare earth materials and prevent future supply disruptions.
