Hello Autocar family, I am planning to buy a new car for me and my grandfather. I already have a Hyundai Santro at home, so this will be my second car. The mandatory requirements are a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and decent mileage. My daily commute is around 30 km, including 20 km on the highway and 10 km in the city. The cars we are considering are the Kia Seltos GTX A, Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7T, Maruti Suzuki Victoris ZXI Plus (O), Hyundai Creta N Line, and Tata Sierra Adventure. I am also open to considering the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. We are both confused and haven't been able to agree on one option. Please help us out, guys!

Go for the Kia Seltos GTX A. It is the most balanced choice for your requirements. Your daily usage of 30 km, with a mix of highway and city driving, does not justify a diesel, so a strong turbo-petrol with a reliable automatic gearbox is the better choice. This Kia car offers the panoramic sunroof and 360-degree camera you want, along with a well-rounded ownership experience, a wide service network, and a comfortable ride for your grandfather. The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 T is also a good option, but it is a much larger vehicle and not as easy to live with in the city. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris ZXI Plus (O) is a strong value-for-money proposition, but the Seltos feels more premium and better finished. The Hyundai Creta N Line is a good alternative if you prefer Hyundai cars, but the Seltos feels like the more complete package. The Tata Sierra Adventure is interesting, but its turbo-petrol engine still needs a longer ownership track record. The Tata Sierra price starts at Rs 11.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are excellent driver's cars, but the Seltos offers a better overall ownership experience. Overall, the Kia Seltos GTX A is the car you are most likely to be happiest with over the next five years.

I am planning to buy a compact SUV for my father (65+ years old) and would like to get your advice. The car will be used mainly for commuting in rural towns, with occasional city drives and airport trips (around 2-3 times a year). My priorities are: petrol automatic, good space, comfortable seating for 5 people, good fuel efficiency, easy and stress-free ownership, long-term reliability, low maintenance, and comfortable ride quality for elderly passengers. I am considering Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and also Tata Sierra. Do you think the Honda Elevate is still a good choice, or would you recommend another model that meets my requirements?

The Honda Elevate is still a very good choice for your requirements. It is a simple, reliable and easy-to-own car with a comfortable ride and a proven naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a smooth CVT automatic. For your father's usage pattern - rural town commuting, occasional city drives and airport runs - the Honda car's fuss-free ownership experience, good ground clearance and comfortable seating make it a strong contender. It is, however, a bit on the noisy side. That said, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder mild hybrid is also worth serious consideration. This Toyota car offers better fuel efficiency, a comfortable ride and Toyota's strong reputation for reliability and low maintenance. The mild hybrid system provides a noticeable efficiency advantage in mixed driving conditions, and the car is well-suited to long-term ownership. However, its back seat and boot space aren't as good as the Honda's.Between the two, the decision comes down to priorities. If you value hassle-free simplicity and a proven ownership experience, the Elevate is the safer bet. If fuel efficiency and Toyota's ownership reputation are more important, the Hyryder mild hybrid is the better choice. Both cars are well-suited to your father's needs, and you cannot go wrong with either.

Hi, I have been using the Hyundai Creta SX(O) diesel for the past seven years. I drive about 500 km on weekends, mostly on highways. I am planning to buy an SUV by the end of this year in the Rs. 25 lakh price range. I like the VW Taigun, Kia Seltos, and Tata Sierra. I prefer performance over mileage. Kindly suggest.

Based on your usage, we'd recommend the Volkswagen Taigun GT 1.5 TSI DSG. The Volkswagen Taigun mileage is 19.54 kpl for the 1.0 TSI AT, 19.98 kpl for the 1.0 TSI MT, and 18.85 kpl for the 1.5 TSI DCT.Covering around 500km on most weekends, primarily on the highway, and prioritising performance over fuel efficiency, the Taigun is the most engaging SUV on your shortlist. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is strong and refined, while the DSG gearbox complements it beautifully, making it a genuinely enjoyable car to drive. It also has excellent high-speed stability and feels more involving than both the Seltos and the Sierra. The Taigun price starts at Rs 11.00 lakh (ex-showroom).One SUV that isn't on your shortlist but is well worth considering is the Mahindra XUV 7XO. While your Rs. 25 lakh budget won't get you the absolute top variant, it will still buy you a well-equipped model that feels like a significant upgrade over your current Creta. It offers a spacious cabin, strong performance and a more premium overall experience.

I have been driving a Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TDI for the past 13.5 years and have clocked around 1.2 lakh km with it. It is a car I absolutely love, and despite test-driving many newer vehicles while looking for an upgrade, I am still struggling to find something that matches its combination of punchy performance, handling, steering feel, solidity, and overall driving quality. I am now looking to upgrade to an SUV with a budget of around ₹25 lakh. So far, I have test-driven the following: Renault Duster 1.3 Turbo Petrol Manual - contrary to the hype, I found it quite disappointing Tata Sierra 1.5 Petrol Automatic - comfortable, but it felt underpowered MG Hector, MG Astor, and Mahindra XUV700 - none of them really connected with me as a driver Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI GT - this came closest in terms of driving feel, but the build quality and solidity still did not feel as robust as my older CBU Polo Volkswagen Tiguan - liked it, but it is unfortunately beyond my budget I am not inclined towards the Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos because build quality and safety are very important to me. My driving usage is around 70% city and 30% occasional highway trips, although I would like to increase my long-distance driving in the future. Could you please suggest some strong options that offer solid build quality, engaging driving dynamics, good safety, and an overall premium driving experience that could genuinely feel like a worthy upgrade from my Polo?

Do note, only the Volkswagen Polo GTI was brought to India as a completely built unit (CBU); the regular Polo was locally manufactured, although the localised content varied over time.Coming to your question, you seem to have tried all the options available, and none have caught your fancy. In that case, we would recommend that you look at pre-owned options instead. A two- or three-year-old Skoda Kodiaq or Volkswagen Tiguan should fall within your Rs 25 lakh budget, and both have the same solid European build quality and are powered by a strong 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. You will enjoy driving both Skoda and Volkswagen cars, which will feel like a proper upgrade from your outgoing car. Look for a car that's still covered by factory warranty for greater peace of mind.
