I am planning to purchase my first car. I don't have any specific requirements or daily running. I will mainly use it for city rides with family when needed and occasional weekend highway trips. My budget is up to Rs. 12 lakh. Which one should I choose among the Tata Punch, Skoda Kylaq, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Tata Nexon? I am also open to other options.

Hi Autocar Team, I'm a first-time car buyer and have narrowed my shortlist down to these three automatic variants: - Honda Amaze ZX CVT - Tata Punch Accomplished+ S AMT - Skoda Kylaq Signature AT Initially, our budget was around ₹16 lakh, but we've consciously reduced it to around ₹12 lakh because of the uncertainty surrounding the future impact of ethanol blending. We felt that if regulations or technology change significantly over the next few years, we'd be more comfortable having spent less on our first car. I've managed to test drive only the Punch AMT, Amaze manual, and Kylaq Prestige manual, as the automatic variants weren't available. My impressions: Tata Punch Accomplished+ S AMT - Overall, I liked it but felt lag in the starting gear changes. - The seating position, visibility, and 360-degree camera were impressive. - However, I noticed noticeable lag and jerks during the 2nd-to-3rd gear shift, and the pickup felt slow at times. Is this something owners get used to, or does it remain noticeable in daily driving? Honda Amaze ZX - I drove the manual since the CVT wasn't available. - The engine and driving experience felt smooth. - My main concerns were the front seats lacking under-thigh support, the infotainment screen being difficult to see in bright sunlight, and the cabin feeling a bit dated compared to the others. Skoda Kylaq - I drove the Prestige manual. - The cabin quality and overall driving experience felt very good. - Since I couldn't drive the automatic, I'm unsure how the torque converter behaves in city traffic. A bit about our usage: - This will be our family's first car. - Both my parents (50+) will also be driving it, so ease of driving and confidence behind the wheel are very important. - We plan to keep the car for 6-8 years. - Current expected usage is around 50% city and 50% highway, although our usage may increase once we own a car. Considering long-term ownership, reliability, service experience, overall build and quality, ease of driving for first-time drivers, and lower chances of issues over 6-8 years, which would you recommend among these three? Also, if your recommendation is the Skoda Kylaq Signature AT: - Can the infotainment system be upgraded later to include a rear-view camera or even a 360-degree camera while retaining good integration and warranty? - Or is it better to stretch the budget and buy the Signature Plus AT from the start?

Hi Autocar, I'm planning to buy my first automatic car with an on-road budget of around Rs. 12 lakh, and I'm a bit confused between these options: Honda Amaze ZX CVT, Tata Punch Accomplished+ S AMT, Skoda Kylaq Signature AT The car will mostly be used for a mix of city driving and occasional highway trips. A few things about my usage: I'm a first-time driver, so I want something easy to drive, and that helps me build confidence. Right now, the car will be used occasionally, but the usage could increase over the next few years. My parents will also be driving it sometimes, so ease of driving and comfort are important. I'm looking for a reliable car that doesn't give frequent issues and is easy to own. Which of these would you recommend based on my requirements? Also, if I go with the Kylaq, is the Signature+ AT really worth paying around Rs. 2 lakh more than the Signature AT? Are the extra features and overall package worth the premium, or is the Signature AT good enough? Thanks!

I am looking to upgrade my 19-year-old i10 Era and am seeking a vehicle that offers a great blend of comfort and longevity for the next 15 years. My budget is 12-16 lakh. While I am happy with my current car, I need something with more power for overtaking and lower maintenance requirements. Although my current annual usage is low (approximately 2,000-3,000km), I expect this to increase with a new car. My primary use will be city driving in Kochi with three passengers, but I need enough space and comfort for occasional long drives and airport runs. I am prioritising value for money. My current picks: Tata Punch EV (Empowered S+) - around 14 lakh Pros: The instant torque and overtaking performance are appealing. Shock absorbers are also nice. There are features (but not sure how much they will help me). Concerns: Tata’s quality control, long-term service consistency, and uncertainty around EV resale value and technology depreciation. Mahindra XUV 3XO (MX2 Pro TC Automatic) around ₹12 lakh Pros: Feels like a proper, spacious SUV. Cons: Lower fuel efficiency and higher RTO costs compared to an EV. Skoda Kylaq (Signature TC Automatic) - around 12.75 lakh Pros: Excellent reviews for handling and engine performance. Cons: Lower fuel efficiency and higher RTO costs compared to an EV. Citroen Aircross (X You Manual) - around 10 lakh Pros: Excellent reviews for ride comfort and handling. Cons: Manual transmission and concerns about the brand's service network. Overall, what should I choose between a manual, an automatic and an EV? Are automatics a no-brainer these days? Is the Punch EV a good option now?

I am planning to buy a new car with a budget of around Rs. 12 lakh. I am confused between the Tata Punch EV (40 kWh), Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Skoda Kylaq, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. Could you please suggest the best option for my daily usage? At present, I own a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and my monthly running is approximately 3,100 km. My primary concern is reducing my monthly running costs. Considering my usage pattern and priorities, which car would you recommend?
