Isuzu’s India line-up is small but focused, with 2 models for buyers looking for rugged, diesel-powered vehicles. The D-Max V-Cross is a lifestyle pickup that competes with the Toyota Hilux, while the MU-X is a three-row SUV that rivals the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster.
This Japanese carmaker entered India in 2012 and started local production at its Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh in 2016. Since then, Isuzu has built a niche reputation for rugged and durable vehicles, with the D-Max V-Cross and MU-X.
Both models use Isuzu’s 1.9-litre diesel engine producing 163hp and 360Nm, but cater to different needs. The 5-seat V-Cross is a lifestyle pickup with 4WD and manual and automatic gearbox options, while the seven-seat MU-X is available with 4x2 and 4x4 configurations and gets only an automatic gearbox.

Trending Questions on Isuzu Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
Hi AAA, My name is Richu, and I'm from Kerala. I'm keen on buying a lifestyle pickup truck. I don't really have a practical use case for it. It's purely a passion purchase, and I want something that stands out from ordinary vehicles. It will be my secondary car, mainly used for occasional family trips and some mild off-roading. I recently test-drove both the Isuzu V-Cross and the Toyota Hilux. I loved the Hilux for its strong performance and, the availability of a locking rear differential. However, I wasn't impressed with its ride quality. It felt quite stiff, and there was noticeable pitching from the back. When I drove the V-Cross on the same stretch of road, the ride felt much more comfortable. I also preferred the V-Cross for its looks and overall ride comfort. Now I'm confused about which one to buy. The Hilux is based on Toyota's current-generation platform, whereas the V-Cross is based on a much older platform. Toyota also has a stronger service network than Isuzu. So, it's a classic heart vs mind dilemma, and I'd really appreciate your help in choosing between these two vehicles.
I want a powerful vehicle to build a campervan. The Tata Yodha and Mahindra are two options, but they are very rough to drive. I can extend my budget up to ₹20 lakh, but want something strong yet more refined. Is there any chance of an electric vehicle suitable for this purpose becoming available and legal in the near future?

Isuzu MU-X
Kartik•10 October 2026
For our family travels, the Isuzu MU-X has been an amazing choice. Our road adventures in Himachal Pradesh were ideal for this SUV. Navigating the mountainous terrain is best suited for the MU-X because of its four-wheel drive capability and strong engine. Long trips are enjoyable in the roomy interiors, and the modern safety measures ensure a safe ride. Our last summer excursion to Manali in the MU-X was fantastic, with great handling and performance. The spacious boot easily accommodated all our vacation gear, making the trip unforgettable.
