Karthik Tharani Singh registered his first win of the season in Race 1 Round 2 of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2014 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore on Friday. Anshul Manoj Shah and Karminder Pal Singh came in second and third respectively.

The race started with Karthik at pole position, who retained his top position throughout the race, followed by Anindith Reddy Kunda, Angad Singh Matharoo and Anshul till lap 10. On the 10th lap, Gaurav Mehta’s car crash caused the race to be red flagged. After the restart, Angad made an early move on Anindith, and climbed to P2. Anshul was consistently fourth for the rest of the race.

Due to restart after lap 10, the race was divided into two parts, and for the final results, the aggregate timing of all the drivers from both the parts was considered. Due to this, Anshul climbed up to the second spot, followed by Karminder at the third position. Yatin Magu stood fourth. Angad had finished third, however, due to a penalty of 30 seconds for overtaking while the safety car was out, he was pushed down to number 11. In the aggregate timings, Karthik posted a timing 10 seconds lesser than the closest, Anshul.

Karthik Tharani Singh said, “Qualifying on 3rd spot was not the best way to start the race; however, an early move in C1 helped me gain the top spot.”
