To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Land Cruiser 70, Toyota has announced it will produce the iconic original again in Japan. Production will be limited to one year only.

The Land Cruiser 70 can be had as either a standard four-door SUV or as a pick-up truck. It draws power from a reworked 4.0-litre V6 petrol unit with an aluminium block and VVT-i technology that produces 228bhp and 36.7kgm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Toyota has also updated the features list to meet today’s standards with essential additions like ABS and airbags. Cosmetically, the Land Cruiser 70 gets changes both inside and outside. Prominent changes upfront include an updated grille, hood and headlights with turn indicators.

The Land Cruiser 70 has been re-launched in Japan because there is still a strong demand for the car in the local markets and Toyota is expecting to sell around 200 units every month. The Land Cruiser 70 was discontinued in 2004 but is still available in a handful of markets like Australia and some parts of Asia.
