Suzuki shows S-cross petrol, Ignis AMT, Vitara Brezza AT in Indonesia

Suzuki has showcased a slew of new models at the ongoing Indonesian International Auto Show. Out of the six Suzukis displayed at the motor show, three models are likely to head to India. These include the Suzuki S-cross 1.5 petrol, the Suzuki Ignis AMT and Vitara Brezza automatic.

    Suzuki S-cross 1.5 petrol

The India-made S-cross will go on sale in Indonesia soon and will be available in that market solely in petrol engine form. The crossover is of relevance to India as Maruti has been working on a petrol version of its crossover to cater to the resurgence in demand for petrol engine cars. As we had reported earlier, the S-cross petrol will feature Suzuki’s M15 1.5-litre engine that makes 109hp and 138Nm. The car for Indonesia will be offered with a choice of five-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearboxes and it is expected these transmissions will make it to the Indian model as well. Interestingly, Suzuki is to show the facelifted version of the S-cross at the Paris motor show later this year.

    Suzuki Vitara Brezza 1.3-diesel AT

India may have been the first market to get the Vitara Brezza but the version shown in Indonesia is of interest for another reason, namely, its gearbox. As per details revealed at the motor show, the Vitara Brezza will be available in Indonesia with the same 1.3-litre diesel engine as offered in India, but with the option of an automatic gearbox. It is not yet clear what type of automatic transmission will be employed on the Indonesian model though Maruti is working on an AMT version for India. The carmaker already sells the 1.3-litre engine mated to an AMT unit on its Dzire compact sedan.

    Suzuki Ignis 1.2 AMT

Suzuki also displayed the new Ignis hatchback at the show. As with the S-cross, the Indonesia-spec Ignis will be a petrol only model using Suzuki’s 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine. The engine will be offered with a five-speed manual as standard as well as the option of an AMT gearbox. The latter detail suggests the petrol version of the India-bound Ignis will also get an AMT unit rather than a CVT unit as originally expected. The high cost of the CVT system could be the reason for Suzuki opting to go for an AMT unit instead. Maruti will launch the Ignis in India in the coming months powered by 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines.
