    Skoda reveals wireless MirrorLink tech

Skoda debuted its new wireless MirrorLink technology at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The carmaker has already offered the technology on many of its models in its international line-up, though the system requires the phone to be physically connected to the infotainment system to transfer the data.

Developed with TechniSat and RealVNC, the new system uses WiFi connectivity to transfer data from the phone to the infotainment system, allowing the driver the convenience of not having to physically connect his phone.

MirrorLink basically turns a smartphone into a media server, where the user can transfer music and a range of approved apps directly to the touchscreen – this includes internet services like web radio, weather, audiobooks, navigation and even parking information. Skoda’s custom-designed MirrorLink apps such as Skoda MFA Pro and Skoda Drive are also available on the wireless system.

The prototype for the technology was showcased at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona at the company’s co-partner RealNVC’s stand from February 22 to 25, 2016.
