Hyundai has unveiled its US-spec Elantra at the LA motor show 2015. The car gets minor styling changes from its Korean version – the Hyundai Avante – and a choice of two engines and gearboxes.

In terms of styling updates, the car gets LED daytime running lamps in place of the fog lamps as on the Korean model. In addition, the grille now gets chrome treatment as well, while the manufacturer has also reduced drag by using underbody cladding.

The car is powered by a choice of a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle engine. The 1.4 turbo-petrol develops 126.2bhp and 21.57kgm of torque and will be equipped in the model badged 'Elantra Eco'. The larger 2.0-litre motor develops 145bhp and 18.25kgm of torque. The smaller engine will be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard; the larger 2.0-litre motor gets a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags (including a knee airbag on the driver's side), ESC, Vehicle Stability Management, traction control, ABS and a tire pressure monitoring system. Features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep Assist, blind spot detection and lane change assist are add-on options.
