The 2015 Ford Everest, soon to be launched in India as the new Ford Endeavour, has scored a five-star safety rating in the ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) crash test with an overall score of 35.98 out of 37.

The tested Ford Everest Trend 4×4 Automatic variant, powered by a 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel engine and weighing 2,370 kg, was equipped with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), dual front, side chest, side curtain and driver knee airbags as standard features. The SUV scored an acceptable 25.02 out of 36 points for pedestrian protection, and was rated ‘Good’ for whiplash protection. The Everest was rated five stars for a frontal offset crash test score of 15.38 out of 16, and scored full marks on side impact and side pole crash tests.

The ANCAP report suggested negligible damage to the passenger compartment, stable passenger airbag contact, controlled steering wheel and pedal displacements and also highlighted the lack of additional effort required to open all the doors after the crash.

Other notable cars to score a five-star rating in the ANCAP crash tests include the new Toyota Fortuner and the Volvo XC90

“Five star ratings for both the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest demonstrate the increasing safety focus in the off-road SUV marketplace,” ANCAP CEO James Goodwin said.
