Fiat has launched the 2013 Linea T-Jet  in three trim levels.

The base Active trim gets rain sensing wipers, ABS and EBD. The Dynamic trim gets twin airbags, automatic climate control and steering-mounted audio controls with Bluetooth, and the Emotion trim gets 16-inch alloys and leather seats. All trims get disc brakes on all four wheels.

There are no changes to the exterior and interior styling.

The Linea T-Jet will initially only be available for sale in the top eight metros, including Mumbai.
Interestingly, the competitive price of the base ‘Active’ variant makes the T-Jet a good Rs 39,000 cheaper than the recently launched turbo-petrol hatchback, the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. Both these cars are powered by turbo-petrol engines, making them a favourite among performance enthusiasts and one of the deciding factors between the two could be your preference of gearbox.

While the Linea T-Jet comes with a conventional five-speed manual box, the Polo GT TSI sends it power through an automatic seven-speed DSG gearbox. In terms of technology and equipment, the Polo GT TSI is better equipped than the base ‘Active’ variant of the Linea T-Jet and the TSI motor mated to the DSG gearbox definitely has the technological edge over the T-Jet’s mechanicals as well. But, it is hard to ignore the fact that the base T-jet, despite its significantly lower price tag, is a properly spacious three-box saloon that holistically, gives you more for your money. On the other hand, if you opt for the mid-spec ‘Dynamic’ variant, you get a lot more equipment, putting it on par with the Polo TSI in terms of kit but making it Rs. 40,000 more expensive than the latter.

The box below gives you a direct specification-wise comparison between the two.

Prices for the Linea T-Jet are as follows:

Ex-showroom, Delhi:
Active: Rs 7.6 lakh
Dynamic: Rs 8.4 lakh
Emotion: Rs 8.8 lakh

Ex-showroom, Mumbai:

Active: Rs 7.87 lakh
Dynamic: Rs 8.73 lakh
Emotion: Rs 9.11 lakh
