Fiat has revealed a new performance 500 for the North American market. The Fiat 500 Turbo is based on the Mexican-built 500, but features the 133bhp, 1.4-litre turbo four-pot from the 500 Abarth.

The 500 Turbo has the same styling as the European 500 Abarth, but carries the Fiat badge, rather than the iconic scorpion logo.

The 500 Abarth sold in North American markets is the same specification as the Europe’s 157bhp Essesse model, and the 500 Turbo will sit below it as the most powerful Fiat offered. The standard, Mexican-built 500 features a raft of changes from European models, including a new rear axle, a larger fuel tank and retuned suspension.

A new audio system, developed by Beats by Dr Dre, is featured in the 500 Turbo. The system incorporates six speakers, an eight-inch boot-mounted subwoofer and an eight channel 368-watt amplifer.
