Audi has started testing the new A5 Sportback prior to the car’s international launch sometime in 2017. The model will join Audi's line-up post the launch of the A5 Coupe. The heavily disguised test mule spotted seems have styling cues borrowed from the new A4, and will be a direct rival to the BMW 4-series on sale internationally.

The images show a car with a sleeker front end than before, with the headlights and grille tweaked to fit with the style of the new A4. Slim LED tail-lights are also visible through the heavy camouflage cladding, which covers every inch of the car’s bodywork, including the rear window.
The new A5 Sportback will also get a longer wheelbase than its predecessor allowing for greater space in the cabin. The interiors too are borrowed heavily from the new A4.

Mechanically, the car is expected to use the same engines as the new A4, while following the same weight-saving measures to shave off an extra 100kg. The new A5 Sportback is also expected to use a five-link rear suspension to make it more agile.

In India, Audi is currently offering a performance-oriented sibling of the current A5, badged the S5.
The automaker is also set to launch the new A4 in India sometime this year.
