Audi’s A3 and A4 may be similar in size and easy to confuse but Audi has stated that there won’t be any price overlap between the two in India .
Whereas the A4 starts at around Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and dips down to Rs 25 lakh when Audi has special editions on offer, this new car is expected to start at around Rs 22 or 23 lakh, which could really set the cat among the pigeons. Audi could even go further down the price band in an effort to widen appeal of the Audi A3. It could offer the A3 with a manual gearbox just as it has done with the Audi Q3 S.
What could even work really well would be an A3 S – a sporty look that offsets the slightly de-contented interior could do wonders for appeal. What will differentiate the A3 from the A4, however, will be the fact that the latter has much more legroom in the rear of the car.
The A3 will come initially with a 1.8-litre TFSI turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. Performance will be strong as the car is lighter than the A4. A fun and relatively affordable Audi could be on the cards. Stay tuned.
