Hyundai’s luxury arm, Genesis, has unveiled its first off-roader prototype, called the X Skorpio Concept. It is powered by a 1,100hp V8 engine, which, Genesis says, “sets new benchmarks for off-road driving”.

Genesis X Skorpio Concept: Engine and specifications
Gets a V8 engine and Brembo Motorsport brakes
Powering the X Skorpio Concept is a strong V8 engine that produces 1,100hp and 1,152Nm, comparable to a typical trophy truck in a desert racing event. In fact, Genesis states that the concept is tailored for high-speed off-road racing and recreational driving that includes navigating airborne jumps.
Genesis also says that the X Skorpio Concept offers “extreme” ground clearance and “generous” approach, departure and break-over angles. The stopping duties are handled by Brembo Motorsport brakes.
Genesis X Skorpio Concept: Exterior design
Looks similar to the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept from 2023
The Genesis X Skorpio Concept’s exterior design seems to take inspiration from the 2023 X Gran Berlinetta Concept. In fact, the flared fenders and bumpers of the X Skorpio Concept make it feel like Genesis has affixed an exoskeleton to the aforementioned supercar concept.
The X Skorpio Concept gets V-shaped LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) that extend to Genesis’s signature ‘Two-Line’ design to the front fenders. Four circular LED headlight pods are placed under the DRLs. The sculpted bonnet features air intakes to cool the electrical components, while a functional roof scoop does the same for the cabin.
In profile, it gets flush-type door handles and exhaust outlets, and 18-inch beadlock rims with custom 40-inch off-road tyres enhance its rally racer look. The ‘Two-Line’ LED tail-lights and illuminated Genesis lettering sit on a silver-finished grille that gives a lot of contrast to the design.
Genesis X Skorpio Concept: Interior and features
Does not compromise on luxury despite its off-roader looks
Even though it is a rugged off-roader concept, Genesis has kept the luxury quotient intact in the X Skorpio Concept’s cabin. It gets a lot of soft-touch materials, “surpassing the stripped-down utilitarianism of traditional trophy trucks”, says the brand. The driver’s display is mounted on the three-spoke steering wheel, and the dashboard features a slidable touchscreen that can be configured for solo or co-pilot driving. Advanced communication systems are also available.
For safety, the X Skorpio Concept is equipped with an integrated roll cage, a four-point harness system for the passengers and reinforced structural components.
Genesis is tight-lipped on plans about a production version of the X Skorpio Concept. However, chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke, while referring to the previously revealed prototypes, said, “Each concept is a signal of what’s possible, a glimpse into the DNA of Genesis’s future.”
