Volvo has officially launched its new S60 saloon in India with a starting price tag of Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The saloon has been launched with both petrol and diesel engine options.

The diesel motor powering the S60 will be the same 205bhp D5 unit doing duty in the XC90 and the S80. The 304bhp petrol motor, however, promises a class-leading performance. The petrol S60, badged T6, is capable of blowing away a BMW 330i with its 3-litre, turbocharged, inline-six cylinder motor with massive 44.8kgm torque on offer via a six-speed gearbox. It will be a four-wheel drive too and hence is more than a match for the 3.2 V6 A4 Quattro.

The S60 comes laden with safety features that no other saloon can match. It gets Pedestrian Detection system, which brings the car to a halt if it detects an imminent collision with a pedestrian. It will also use the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front. Next on the list is the Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) that alerts the driver if any vehicle is in his blind spot and evaluates the possibility of a lane change. It also gets torque vectoring, state-of-the-art navigation system, a reverse camera which can rotate up to 178 degrees, radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with auto Brakes.

The S60 will run on 16inch wheels with an option of 18inch wheel as well. The Volvo comes with a two-year or 60,000km warranty. The D5 diesel gets two variants with prices starting from Rs 27lakh for the base Kinetic, going up to Rs 32lakh for the top-end Summum variant. The high-performance packed T6 Summum petrol retails at Rs 34lakh (prices ex-showroom Delhi).
