Mahindra is understood to be launching a special-edition Scorpio soon, with a heavily camouflaged test mule of the car spotted recently. The spy shots reveal new body graphics and a new set of black alloy wheels. Sticking to the sporty theme of the SUV, the brake calipers have been painted red. The special-edition Scorpio is expected to remain mechanically unchanged.
The model will, however, be pricier than the regular Scorpio. The SUV received a major overhaul in its third generation, which was launched in 2014. Available in six trim levels, prices for the Scorpio range between Rs 9.06 and Rs 14.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Engine options include a 72bhp 2.5-litre turbocharged, common rail diesel engine, which powers the base S2 variant. Variants S4 and upwards are powered by a 116bhp 2.2-litre turbocharged, common-rail diesel engine. Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while the 2.2-litre Scorpio can be had with a six-speed automatic transmission or as an all-wheel drive.
Recently, Mahindra launched its new 1.99-litre diesel unit on the Scorpio, in light of the ban on diesel engines displacing more than 2.0-litres. However, this engine is only available in Delhi-National Capital Region(NCR).
