Renault has unveiled its upmarket Fluence at the Auto Expo 2010. Renault’s answer to Toyota Corolla and Chevy Cruze, the Fluence is built on the very capable Megane III supermini or Renault-Nissan C platform.
Developed in association with Samsung, this low-slung saloon carries a lot of Renault design clues. For a start, the profile looks very similar to the very attractive Laguna, the sunken headlights look super attractive and the sharp ridge along the bonnet and the wave over the front wheels is unique. Even the taut rear and distinguished tail-lights look fantastic.
The Megan III chassis has one of the most impressive ride and handling packages and its suspension is famous for being very refined and silent.
Powering this car will be a more powerful version of the Logan’s 1.5 DCi motor, that puts out at least 100bhp, as well as a 110bhp 1.6 petrol engine sourced from Nissan. Both motors are noted for their impressive fuel efficiency and the car comes with the option of six-speed manuals as well as a Nissan-sourced CVT auto for the petrol version.
The feature that is likely to please Indian customers the most is the finely turned out interiors of the car. Designed with more than just a bit of French flair, the design manages to be subtle, classy and attractive at the same time. The slash across the dash, the attractive central console and the modern cut of the dash are all attractive.
Steering wheel-mounted audio controls, climate control and rear vents are some of the regular features the car could come with. Other more attractive options available on this car include a refrigerated glovebox, keyless go and an integrated Tomtom GPS system.
This all-new saloon from Renault is expected to be launched in India by late 2010 and will be priced around Rs 10-12 lakh.
