Land Rover’s Range Rover Velar has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating, making it one of the safest SUVs sold.

The Velar managed to score 93 percent for adult occupant protection, 85 percent for child occupant protection, 74 percent for pedestrian protection and 72 percent for assistance systems, edging out the new Discovery’s score.

While the Range Rover SUV loses out in some areas compared to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which scored 97 percent for adult occupant protection and 84 percent in child occupant protection, the Velar beats the Alfa Romeo SUV in the pedestrian and assistance categories by three and 12 percent, respectively.

The Velar has managed to beat the Audi Q5’s scores of 73 percent for pedestrian protection and 58 percent for assistance systems, and even the edging out the famously safe Volvo XC90’s 72 percent pedestrian protection score.

The Velar scored five stars across all variants; Euro NCAP recently introduced a two-tier score system, with one score for cars in their standard form and another for the same car with optional safety equipment fitted.

Land Rover in India is currently gearing up to launch the Range Rover Velar in the market as a CBU, after having introduced the Discovery earlier this year.
