Nissan cars are set to become marginally more expensive in 2018 as the manufacturer has announced an increase in prices by up to Rs 15,000 across the Nissan and Datsun brands from January. After Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Toyota, Jeep, Renault, Volkswagen, Skoda and Isuzu, Nissan is the 10th carmaker to announce a price hike.
Towards the year-end, a cyclical revision in product prices has become the norm in the automobile industry, typically attributed to a rise in input costs and fluctuations in foreign exchange rates. Nissan, too, cited similar reasons – writing to the media, Jerome Saigot, Managing Director, Nissan, said that the price hike will help the company to optimise manufacturing efficiencies.
In the month of November, Nissan India’s sales stood at 3,976 units, a marginal uptick of 0.03 percent compared to last November. However for the period of April to November, the company’s sales volumes slumped by 9.85 percent at 35,271 units.
