Chevrolet has officially announced that the next-gen Corvette is going to be revealed in a stand-alone event on July 18, 2019. Chevrolet released the first official teaser image along with the announcement of the reveal event. The image showcases a heavily camouflaged next-gen Corvette with the reveal date on the side. No additional details have been released by Chevrolet yet.

What we do know is that the next-gen Corvette (known internally as the C8) will have a rear mid-engine layout. This will be the first time in the Corvette’s 66-year history that it will leave the front-engine layout in favour of a rear mid-engine one.

C8 Corvette prototypes have already been spotted testing a few times at the Nürburgring, and from the spied models we can tell that the new car has a cab-forward design with a stretched rear end to accommodate the new rear mid-engine layout. It also sounds like Chevrolet has equipped the C8 with a V8 engine and not downsized it to a V6.

Sources from within General Motors have stated that the upcoming C8 Corvette will be sold alongside a version of the current C7 Corvette. The C7 is likely to become the entry-level model of the range and be priced below the C8 Corvette. It is worth noting that the next-gen C8 Corvette will undercut many of the other mid-engine supercars.

Prior to this announcement, the next-gen Corvette was expected to be launched at the upcoming 2019 New York Auto show which is scheduled for April 19-28. We should have more details about the C8 Corvette closer to its launch.
